Vista + quickplay direct 2.3 + Pavilion dv9500 series = possible?

Hello,

Another question regarding quickplay, but I haven’t seen the definitive answer on any of the other threads, here or on other forums. Does anyone know for certain whether or not quickplay direct (2.3) will work with Vista on a series DV9000 pavilion (more specifically dv9500 series, and exactly the model DV9628nr with AMD processor). I’ve seen that some people have gotten it to work with Vista on other models, and I’ve seen at least one post on another board that said that it wouldn’t work with the dv9500 (but they might be mistaken).

So far, I tried the method mentioned somewhere else on this forum without success. i.e. I found at least one version of HPQPDP (don’t know if there are multiple versions) and put it in the SWSetup folder, created the 1G partition at the end of the disk, and ran quickplay setup. On reboot, I get the XP startup screen, but a couple of seconds after startup I get the BSOD. The post that claimed that you couldn’t get quickplay 2.3 going on this model said that it was due to a BIOS compatibility problem, but he could be wrong. In fact, I suspect that he's wrong, since - looking at the HP support site - they have exactly the same BIOS update for XP and Vista. At any rate, I want to keep Vista (even though I think it’s a poor effort on Microsoft’s part; very buggy).

Anyway, if someone is in the know, I’d appreciate your input:

Thanks.

... in what way were they mistaken?

according to HP i only saw the bios F.28 for vista only, even when one looked up under xp section the description states clearly for Windows VISTA environment

so there is a possibility of bios conflict

cheers ...

I don't know. The post just said that it wouldn't work, without saying why. I was just pointing out that you have to take everything with a grain of salt.

Anyway, thanks for your post. I think I've read the equivalent of a small novel now regarding quickplay, including most of that 60-page thread, and the answer seems to be (I say this with > 80% confidence) that you can't install quickplay on the newer HP laptops in which you can't adjust the native SATA support in the BIOS settings. A number of people mentioned the possibility of "slipstreaming" (I put it in quotes to emphasize that I don't know what the heck I'm talking about) the SATA drivers into the quickplay partition after installation but before reboot, but I never saw anyone explaining how to do it or even just celebrating after a success. So I think that this remains a mountain that has yet to be climbed.
