4gb RAM in Acer aspire 5630

Thread Starter
Hi

I recently bought 4gb of ram (kvr667d2s5k2/4g)

Kingston Memory/4GB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 SODIMM (Kit of 2)

but my acer only recognizes 1 module at the time. i tested both modules seperatly but and both work so its not the modules. also the bios sees only 1. what is wrong here? according to the sites and manuals it should recognize both mdules.

have u tried one stick of 533mhz together with the 667mhz and see? could be it just too much for the comp

cheers ...

Might be a stupid reply, but you need a 64-bit operating system to use so much RAM....

Hi Did you manage to sort this out since i cant get a 2GB module recognised!! aspire 5630 sees it as 1GB.
Tested and tried in another laptop as 2GB.

bois sees as 1gb, any ideas?

thanks.

Got this from Crucial.com:
How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found at http://www.crucial.com/kb/answer.aspx?qid=4251.

Your operating system is likely only 32bit

See if there are any Bios updates that have released recently there could be a fix, make sure both sticks of ram are good.

True but thats just the OS the Bios should still report the correct amount of ram installed on the computer.

Hi all

after doing some research last night, come across another important factor in choosing ram, Density, High or low. and it seems from googlling it it does matter, high density RAM can cause your system to mis read it i.e. 2 gb as 1gb or even not booting up.low is preferred choice for modern laptop.

here the link.its a good read.

Check at www.acerpanam.com to see what the memory specs are for your notebook. if it says it can do 2GB of more, then your BIOS should recognize the new memory. The issue of Windows not recognizing all 4GB does not apply in this case. It should still boot up with 4B and the BIOS should recognize 4GB. Assuming the specs say it can take 4GB. The other posters are correct, the 32-bit version of Windows will not see or use that much memory, but the system should still run properly. If it's not, then there is a problem with either the sticks or the memory slots. If each stick works on its own, that leaves the slots. Try each stick in each slot individually. You can also email Acer about this problem by going to www.acerpanam.com and clicking on Email support.

Kingston HyperX PC4200 533MHz 2GB DDR2 Notebook / Netbook Memory Upgrade - 1x2048MB.(KHX4200S2LL/2G)
Bought 2 modules and maxed my ram to 4 gb in acer aspire 5630.It works blazingly fast although 1 gb is not be seen at all!but that is due to the 32 bit limit.

I don't know how it works on the 5630 but on 5670 the chipset limit the memory to 3GB, not the OS.
So my first guess would be that it's the same on your machine.
