ALIENWARE AREA-51 M15X NOW THE FIRST 15.4-INCH NOTEBOOK EQUIPPED WITH 45NM INTEL CORE 2 EXTREME MOBILE PROCESSOR

New 45nm Intel® Core(TM) 2 Extreme mobile processor makes the world's most powerful 15.4-inch notebook even more unstoppable

Miami – Feb. 19, 2008 – Once again, Alienware® – the leading manufacturer of high-performance desktop, notebook and entertainment systems – demonstrates its relentless pursuit for power and performance by equipping the Area-51® m15x notebook computer with the new 45nm Intel® Core(TM) 2 Extreme mobile processor X9000 CPU. This makes the Area-51 m15x, released earlier this year to critical and user acclaim, the first and only 15.4-inch notebook to feature this unique and powerful processor.

"When we launched the Area-51 m15x in January with the original CPUs and the NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX GPU, we knew we had crammed in more power than anyone had ever seen in this size system," said Bryan de Zayas, Associate Director for Product Marketing at Alienware. "Now, with the addition of an Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000, we've made the world's most powerful 15.4-inch notebook even more powerful."

Intel's new 45nm technology infused with Hafnium technology, improved thermal management, more transistors, and Intel HD Boost allows the Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000 to deliver an increase in executable instructions with less strain on the CPU. The processor features 6MB of shared L2 cache and an 800MHz front side bus so users can do even more on their Area-51 m15x notebooks.

"Intel's Core 2 Extreme X9000 represents an incredible achievement in mobile processing," said Erik Reid, Director of Marketing, Mobile Computing Group, Intel. "By merging revolutionary 45nm technology with the awesome performance of the Area-51 m15x, users of this system have at their fingertips one of the most sophisticated mobile systems imaginable."

"We're excited that the Area-51 m15x is the only 15.4-inch system available with a 45nm Extreme processor," said de Zayas. "It reinforces Alienware's philosophy of providing our users with only the most current, most advanced components integrated into our superior architecture and stunning system designs."

So true Duke. I know that there will be a few people just a bit upset at not waiting until they came out with the Penryn series however.

I'm of the opinion that one should wait a little while after the initial release of a product, so as to see any upgrades and/or bugs worked out. This can also cause regret as is the case with my m5500. If I had just waited a few weeks longer, I would have bought a dual core m5550.

Yeah, I definitely agree. It's been about two months since the release of the m15x, so hopefully they got it all worked out. I read a lot of problems about this in the other forums, and there's a lot of disappointment going around. and joy, of course. I'm still waiting for all the initial releases to go out.
But, I'm glad I waited. Now they offer Penryn and all I need is the black chassis.

yeh you gotta get all the goodies when you get a sweet toy like that!

That system should be sweet. We all know performance will be fantastic, but I wonder what real-world power consumption will be like.

I saw a reference where someone said they are getting 4-5 hrs with the smartbay battery option.

I'm actually glad my 1st day order got jammed up. For two reasons ... 1) I can now order penryn, and 2) Alienware's response to my little issue was very positive and helpful - making me think they really do want to improve Customer Service.

Still deciding whether to wait for black or at least the other design, but, fingers are getting itchy.

fingers getting so itchy that you want to pull the trigger... i think the black would be a sweet look for the m15x...

Now I really want to see what they offer in the m17x.

4 to 5 hours sounds optimistic, even with the Smartbay option. I can't see that unless you are doing almost nothing on it. I guess I am just pessimistic. Ha!

Black would be sweet. I'd am still holding my breath for green. I hope I don't die! LOL
