Does the m15x run Vista64 well? Do all the drivers work, including the light controls, or is it limited to Vista32?

m15x comes with 32bit OS

Yeah I know that, that's why I'm asking if the drivers and such work with 64 bit Vista (since I own 64-bit Business, which is better than Home Premium.)

I wouldnt hardly touch vista 32bit and theres no way that i would touch 64 bit right now...to many issues...

You can run Vista64. But, you looking for drivers will be a pain. I'm not sure about the drivers for the light controls though. Gotta wait for Alienware to update the drivers which is also a pain...

32-bit drivers won't work with a 64-bit OS.

A 64-bit OS REQUIRES 64-bit drivers to work even though a 64-bit OS can run 32-bit applications, not only you must look for 64-bit drivers for your system but also for everything you plan on connecting to your computer (scanners, cameras, printers, etc.), if there are no 64-bit drivers for the devices that you are using they won't work.

So be careful when upgrading an OS to 64-bit because it is not just a matter of simply installing the OS.

Vista works with most printers without needing a 3rd party driver (I've used Vista 64 on my previous comp), my mouse has 64 bit drivers, my keyboard and other peripherals are standard plug-and-play. Most of the components are also fairly common in the m15x.

I'm not even worried about video card drivers. What I'm worried mostly about is AlienFX drivers actually.

Don't think they have 64-bit drivers yet for the Alien FX. The reason why I mentioned to be careful with drivers is because I've seen people having problems with some devices because there were no 64-bit drivers.

(yes, I fix computers on the side. )

Alienware only offers th 32 bit os, and AlienFX is their homebrew program, they wouldn't make a 64 bit if they only sell 32 bit OS's

You can't know that for a fact unless you have a m15x and tried it or heard of someone that has.

While I totally agree w/ the statment that a 64bit OS requires 64bit drivers its technically not 100% true. Certain hardware requires 64 bit drivers for sure, but there is a growing amount of hardware where the "Driver" is written at a much higher level and there fore can be run anyway because it resembles a 32bit app much more than a 32 bit driver. The AW lighting from a Hardware end is uber simple!!!! the business end of this feature is mostly contained in the software portion of the app. IIt would really depend on implementation, but I wouldnt be surprised at all if Vista64 wasnt fully capable of installing and running the lighting driver/app with little or no problem.
