Satellite A205-s5803 Wireless Driver

Thread Starter
My mom picked up a Toshiba Satellite A205-s5803 the other day. She insisted I throw XP on it instead of Vista Home. For about 3 days now I've been trying to track down drivers for the thing with limited success. The big one is the driver for Wireless. Both the toshiba docs and device manager say that it's a RealTek device - RTL8187B.

I've tried downloading the drivers off the web, but so far the drivers haven't worked, so I'm assuming that it's not the right device. Anyone have any idea if the drivers are correct or where I can get XP wireless drivers for this model laptop?

Thanks

Thanks, but I've already done that. Since the model is rather new, it seems that Toshiba never bothered to get XP drivers. I somehow doubt that the Vista drivers would work given that they rewrote the TCP/IP stack. Maybe someone else has had luck with this driver?

try this:
quoting"
Download the 8187b drivers from Realtek's site. You then need to go in and edit the .inf file to read like this:

;;****************************************************************************
;; IDs for 98SE/ME/2K/XP
;;****************************************************************************
[Realtek]
%RTL8187B.DeviceDesc% = RTL8187B.ndi, USB\VID_0BDA&PID_8197&REV_0200
%RTL8187B.DeviceDesc% = RTL8187B.ndi, USB\VID_0BDA&PID_8189&REV_0200

After the edit, install as usual from the device manager."

I'm having the same problem with my Toshiba A205, and installing the realtek 8187B driver doesn't seem to help at all. I looked at the .inf file and it looks exactly as qhn posted.

Please help. Thank you.

Post #4 by ghn WILL work if you edit with notepad. Do NOT use setup. Use Device Manager and update the driver manaully. I had the same problem yesterday and got it done. Here's another link with more details that helped me:
