Video card died

Thread Starter
For whatever reason, my 6800 Ultra in my XPS Gen2 I got awhile ago went dead. Can anyone suggest where I can get a replacement on the cheap(er)? I bought the 6800 Ultra upgrade for $500 back then and now spare parts wants $599 for one. Any suggested sites or replacement cards that are cheaper that will fit into my Gen2?

Thx.

Geforce go 7800gtx on Ebay for $369 much faster than the 6800ultra

Just look for PCI Express cards. a gen2 has that slot so you would be ok getting one off newegg or what not.

My 7950GTX just died in my XPS M1710 last weekend! I talked in length about this and other nVidia problems with the XPS tech guys (they are so much smarter than the normal support team) and he said that Dell is experiencing a LOT of problems with nVidia both in laptops and desktops. Mostly with overheating and dying. He also stated that Dell is trying to sell more ATI on the desktop, which is not a bad thing I guess as ATI has finally stepped up to meet nVidia in at least desktops.

AMD/ATI was supposed to be moving forward with mobile chips in the 2nd half of this year. But haven't seen that yet. I guess I'm going to wait for a new laptop when either AMD moves, or Intel take Larabee to the mobile market. I'm DONE with nVidia and their over-advertising bull, poor build quality and poor driver support. done. (Yep, and a little mad too...)

No, no, no, no. NO. This is a laptop, you cannot just buy an off-the-shelf card. Yes it is PCI-E, but its not like you can slot a desktop card in there (which is what you'd find on newegg...). Laptops video card form factor will vary model-to-model, so need one specifically for the Gen 2.

The ones pointed out on ebay, etc by users above would suit.
