Upon revealing the laptop to sunlight, I have found flaws in the paint, at least 5 that I can see without looking very hard. I can actually feel them when I run my finger over them. They're probably caused by air bubbles trapped under the paint and escaped as it was drying, causing little indentations about 1/2 - 1 mm diameter.

I found that if I disable bluetooth, go in power saver profile in vista/alienpowermanagement, integrated graphics, stealth mode, turned off alienfx, and turn down the brightness to the lowest possible, I can get nearly 4 hours of battery life. On a single battery.

It's been on for 29 min so far, there's 86% remaining, and it estimates 3 hr 15min to 3 hr 40 min (fluctuates a lot).

What's on is: wireless, pidgin (aim client), firefox (writing this post), open office (taking notes in class), the vista side bar, and that's about it.

The laptop is also very quiet while in super low power mode (which is what I'll call this setup)... I can't hear it at all while taking notes in class.

I got a score of 9,000 something in 3dMark06, I'll test it again later when in full power.

My setup that I think matters:
2.5ghz Penryn
4gb g.skill ram
8800m gtx / integrated graphics
1gb intel turbo memory (I think it's allowing my HD to stop spinning and giving me extra battery life as long as I don't open a lot of apps)
the 1440x900 lcd

That's fantastic to hear! I'm really considering one after my schooling is done.

That's some pretty long battery life.

This is the same setup I ordered with the credit I got from Alienware from my m5550. Except for the turbo mem and processor. I went with the 2.4GHz. I might bump it up to 2.5Ghz for the 6mb cache.

Does the turbo memory help any? I might get that if it will prolong my battery life.

Also, seems like you aren't getting any downclocking. Alienware, indeed has seemed to fix the issue with the new bios.

Sleep works fine by the way. I just had my laptop on sleep for the last 40 min and it woke up perfectly fine. I had to re-lower the brightness, but the touch controls work and it came back from sleep without problems.

That is good news. Alienware did a good job with your m15x. Did you see my earlier post?

Oh yeah, the turbo memory seems to work, but I don't want to risk disabling it to test it. It takes something like 7 restarts to make it work if you disable it, so I'm just not gonna go through the hassle.

Really? man. Yeah, forget about it... But, were you in intergrated graphics mode or stealth mode to be able to get 4 hours of bat life?

I think Chaz from notebookreview.com was only able to get 2 hours.

Hey hey !! 4 hours !! That is tremendous for a gamin laptop
Grats on the beaut Koshinn.. And yea would like to know when you play some games and test for downclocking/overheating using Rivatuner..
Thanx in advance !

Both. Chaz doesn't know how to maximize power. I'll write a short article about it in a few min.

Is the turbo memory like adding cache to the hard drive or CPU?
Like having a 1gb cache for the cpu(instead of 6mb) or a 1gb cache for the hard drive(instead of 8mb)?
How do you know if the turbo memory is working or not? Are you ordering your own RAM stick to replace the stock ones?
BTW, Is there any difference in .1GHz for the CPU?

I bought ram off of newegg... it's far cheaper to buy 4gb and install it yourself than to get it through AW. It's 30-50% of the cost, and I have 2gb of RAM sitting on my desk now that I could resell to get what basically becomes a free 4gb RAM upgrade.

0.1GHz is not worth the cost, in my opinion. But going from 2.4 to 2.5 also doubles the L2 cache, which IS worth it.

1gb cache for the CPU would probably run a few thousand dollars. It's a HD cache.

Turbo memory adds 512mb for readyboost and 512mb for readydrive. Look them up on wikipedia or something.

I'm really starting to think that the turbocache may be the reason behind the battery life.

It's supposed to only add about 20 min of battery life, but I think you can get a lot more by knowing how it works and playing to its strengths.

Sweet, just changed my order today and added the turbocache. 20 minutes still makes a big difference for me when in classes at school. Maybe not for other people...though. All I hear is that the turbocache is worthless.

Btw, did you play any games on your m15x yet?
