help multimedia buttons for p-6831FX

Did a fresh reinstall of Vista without backup partition, also made a recovery disc. Everything runs great, except no drivers for my Media Control buttons on the top of the unit. The volume slider and mute button works, but not the other buttons. Any help would be appreciated.

TRY THESE DRIVERS: they are for the Gateway P-6831FX I'm sure the Hotkey & Media button drivers should be in there somewhere?

Did you look on the Restore DVD it has to be somewhere? have you tried the IDT-SigMatel Audio Drivers? did you make a drivers CD before you deleted the recovery partition? have you contacted Gateway Live CHat Technical Support, maybe they can help you:

Looks like your bet best would be to re-install back to Factory State w/ your Restore DVD, that's if you want that fuction to ever work again, and before you delete the recovery partition again, make sure you make a Drivers CD also, you didn't have to re-format the whole drive, you could have just deleted the recovery parttiton, and re-sized the drive, that way all of the functions still would have been left intact..................and if you didn't get a Full Factory Restore DVD w/ your p-6831FX you can order one from Gateway, but, it will cost you the shipping, and they run about 20 bucks....every Gateway I ever bought, I ordered a Full Factory Recovery Restore DVD in case I ever run into any problems, and it has always worked for me........this is also helpful if you ever want to sell your Notebook

I ordered a recovery disc from gateway... Since my own backup disc I made doesn't seem to have the driver. I will be very angry if its not on this disc I've pucrhased. If I find the driver, may post a link to it online for fellow FX owners in case they need it.

Since you ordered it from Gateway, it is most likely the P-6831FX Vista Home Premium Full Factory Restore DVD ( the one that restores it back to the way it was shipped from the factory) w/ the Vista Image and all of the Bloatwear, the same image w/ the partitioned drive, so, I'm sure, that will work for you (if that is what you ordered) you did ask for the Full Factory Restore Image for your P-6831FX............Right? if you did, it should have been FREE + the shipping it runs around ($15 to $25 dollars) depending on where you live in the US............ Gateway Inc. is located at 7565 Irvine Center Drive Irvine, CA 92618 , that's in Southern CA.

There is no driver for the hot keys. That hardware is activated by default as a control unit on the laptop. What you're looking for is on your recovery disk in the folder \I386\Apps\App000943.

From that directory, you can run hotfix.cmd and reboot to enable your hotkeys.

If you run the recovery utility, you can go into "application restore" and select the "Hotkey Enabler for Windows Vista" (or something like that - it's pretty clear from the text what it is.
