All the drivers besides the Video Driver which I downloaded externally are RAR files and I can't do anything with them once I get them onto my laptop :S

Should I look for each of these externally also?

One final issue, and then everything is running perfectly...

I can't seem to find the install driver for my Ethernet Controller (It's not working properly).

It's a Broadcom Gigabit V - 5787.

Help would be appreciated.

Ok, my ethernet cable is not working. I'm not sure why, but I can't get it to work. I am at school now, and there is no wireless internet. So the Atheros Wireless card does me no good when I'm at school. Right now I am on a friends computer, so hopefully I can burn the install file from here, to a disc, and put the disc into my computer. The manufacturer of my ethernet card is Broadcom and it's Version is 5787. I already tried one of the drivers from the blog, but it didn't work I think because it's the driver for the 'wireless' Broadcom card. Please help.

Thanks.

Quick question for you boys - I'm about to undertake this same task of "downgrading" to XP (and what exactly is the benefit of Vista, other than almost 800MB of memory chewed up without a single program running!! DAMN that's ridiculous!!) But, I digress - my question is whether after installing those drivers, do all of the laptop specific buttons function properly, such as the function button controls for screen brightness, turning the touch pad off and on, muting the sound, etc... and the dedictated buttons along the top for the wireless network, email shortcut, internet browser shortcut. etc. This is my only concern before putting XP on - thanks in advance for the information.

this statement is so oooooold, sometimes it is no longer fun to even think about it. But just some "informative/factual" observations:
. unused RAM = dead RAM
. vista is a better memory manager than previous windows version, it is constantly learning one's way of using her/his comp to speed up process
. as long comp performance is not influenced in a negative way by the ram usage, but to be better - i'd say "take the ram, OS"

so far as i see and heard that yes ... but the road getting to it sometimes can be very painful & frustrating .. not many users having same models taking the OS change road, thus limiting the info that floats out there. 80% r from the net/forums, the other 20% of work belong to u - & the more people shares her/his experience, the easier for the next person

good luck on ur "down/up"-grade, depending on ur point of view

cheers ...

Hey - thanks for the reply. I don't want to sound unappreciative, but I'm not a noob by any stretch. I go back as far as appreciating the benefits of 95b over 95. Loving the difference between 98se and 98. Everything was a step forward up to this point, and then came ME. Why? Nothing better, but still managed to crash after clean installs on 3 or 4 freshly built machines. I passed it by and never missed it for a second. XP - huuuuuuuuge difference. Been loving it since day 1. So far, I don't get Vista. I'm sorry you're tired of hearing people say things I'm just getting around to saying now. They simply had an experience with the OS before I did. I felt no need to upgrade my three XP machines - why? because they work great. If it ain't broke, yadda yadda. This laptop came with Vista on it. They moved things around to places I had a hard time finding and I can't for the life of me figure out why. It's prettier, I certainly give it that. But I'd rather have a car with a new engine than a new paint job. No insults intended - just my two cents. My first and only cents regarding Vista. Thanks again.

sure, but on the same token, the defintion of a new engine belongs to the folks that made the engine. U can disagree that it is not a new engine according to ur definition. & u have every right in getting the new car, throwing out the "new" engine, n squeezing the engine from the old car that works for u.

But u will be having running issues when the button & controls in the dashboard or ur transmission do not work well due to some missing elements packed with the new engine

I don't have the discs to install them. Can I get the installs for all these online somewhere and burn them to a disc and install on laptop?

Have you considered dual booting with Vista and XP until you are absolutely sure that everything is working as you wish on XP. If you have the HDD space you could keep both OS's even after everything is working
