Hello people!!

Here's whats up, Sony Vaio vgn-fs630/w I can't get to boot past the Vaio logo, and it won't go into bios, For some reason it seems like the keyboard won't respond to me pressing F2.. So I hooked up a external keyboard to see if that would help, but nothing... I don't have a battery installed chould that be the thing?? please any help !! thanks

F2 is def. the key you need to press. WHat happens when you press Ctrl + Alt + Del?

Yeah, I try the ATL, CTRL, DEL and nothing it dosen't reboot.. nothing!! I also tried to hook up a external keyboard, and nothing there too..

Thank you for the reply.. Do you think it chould be that I don't have a Battery installed.. I ask because I had a laptop,, IBM that wouldn't boot unless you had a good working battery installed.. Or maybe bad memory??

I don't see how memory would be the problem here. If the F2 key is not working on both the notebook keyboard AND an external keyboard something else is at fault. I've never heard of a problem like this however and if no keys are working during boot up, there isn't much you can do. Try downloading KNOPIX and see if you can boot from that. It may be a hard drive problem.

Hey Steve..
I can't get the laptop that were talking about online.. Can I download KNOPIX on a different laptop?? Download it and burn it to a Dvd+Rw and then run it on the Sony Vaio?? Would that work??
Absolutely. If it boots with Knopix, you will have access to all of your files and you can confirm that its a Windows Error.

Also, reading this post that was just made here, it sounds like Sony notebooks do not respond well with keyboard when they are outside of windows. This maybe your problem. Try using different types of keyboard to boot into the Bios. Different vendors etc. This person used 3 USB keyboard before one worked.

I have the exact same problem. External keyboard not recognized and internal keyboard not responding. I had the notebooked booted with win98 cd and it booted all fine. But still no luck on the keyboard.

maybe we have the same problem here, i got Vaio VGN fs630/w stop working on boot and cannot enter BIOS, the keyboard not responding.

when i googling somewhere i found this http://esupport.sony.com look at the FAQ, they called this is the power INTERMITTENT problem, do you used the original batery and AC adaptor?

my AC adaptor stolen by the f**cking thief, i bought a cheap replacement AC adapter, i dont know this will make me in trouble like this. the AC adapter have maximum voltage which is must be the same as the DC power needed, the volts is correct 19.5 Volts for VAIO VGN FS630/w, but we dont know since this is the cheap one not the original battery by sony. maybe the power is over and make the capasitor around the processor overheating, also can burn you PC or battery.

the solution is.. do the Power task which i found it on esupport

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot no power or the computer does not turn on.

IMPORTANT:
  • While following this procedure, note the LED status at each step. This will provide additional information for the technician if repair becomes necessary.
  • If model-specific information is required to complete any of the steps in this solution, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product. Manuals are available online in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site.
NOTE: Some computers are designed with hooks above the LCD screen that secure the lid when closed. A switch inside the holes below the touchpad [FIG. 1] detects when the lid is closed and latched. If the switch is stuck, the computer may not turn on properly. Check to make sure the switch is working properly.
  1. Connect the AC adapter [FIG. 2] into a known working AC outlet and to the DC jack on the notebook.
    NOTES:
    • Do not connect the AC adapter to a surge protector or extension cord.
    • If the DC jack on the computer is loose or damaged, the computer may require service.
    • Some AC adapters have a POWER LED indicator and can be confirmed as receiving power by ensuring the LED is lit. If the AC adapter is damaged or the LED is not lit when plugged into a working AC outlet, the adapter must be replaced. A replacement AC adapter can be obtained from the Sony® Direct Accessories and Parts Center Web site or by calling (800) 488-7669.
  2. Attempt to turn on the computer.
  3. Press and hold the Power Switch for 15 seconds.
  4. Attempt to turn on the computer.
  5. Remove the battery.
  6. Disconnect the AC power adapter.
  7. Press and hold the Power Switch for 15 seconds.
  8. Connect the AC power adapter.
  9. Attempt to turn on the computer. NOTE: If the computer turns on without the battery, connect and charge the battery for 24 hours.
  10. Disconnect all external devices that are connected to the computer. NOTE: These devices include, but are not limited to, a modem, floppy disk drive, network connection, USB device, printer, keyboard, or mouse.
  11. Attempt to turn on the computer.
  12. Remove any additional Random Access Memory (RAM) that was installed in the computer.
  13. Attempt to turn on the computer. NOTES:
    • The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your issue. If you have completed all of the steps and the issue is not resolved, service may be required. The Sony® eService Web site at http://eservice.sony.com/ can assist you in obtaining service from a Sony Service Center or locating a Sony Authorized Servicer.
    • When shipping the computer for repair, include all notes of the LED status that displayed during troubleshooting.
enjoy...

if you just go and buy the new motherboard, you will face the same problem again next time, i suggest you not to buy a sony notebook or motherboard again, then.. why you won't try to fix it by yourself first.. because i do the repair and canibalize the notebook.. everything goes fine right now. no worries.
