Problem with Samsung 226BW and 1710

Hi,

I have a real strange problem. I can setup my display on my samsung 226bw so that it is the only display and that the internal lcd is turned off. It displays fine at 1680x1050.

However when I restart the laptop and get to windows the signal the laptop seems to send out is 1280x1024 (which the monitor reports). Windows still sets the desktop at 1680x1050 and the result is a desktop that is oversized for the monitor.

I can correct this by turning off the laptop, disconnecting the monitor, restarting the laptop and then reconnecting the monitor.

I can't figure out why it does this?

I have the Dell 1710 with 7900GTX and am using the NBF Mobileforce drivers v169.09 M4 drivers under xp pro.

I have also installed the drivers for the monitor as well. Can anyone help? It is driving me crazy!!! Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Fuzzmo

I've got two Samsung 226BWs and have never experience that problem.

Question...are you using a DVI cable? When I check my monitor setting (Menu button on the monitor-->"I" / Information Window) it shows that I'm getting a Digital 1680 x 1050 signal. Right-clicking my desktop shows that my graphics setting is also at 1680 x 1050.

are these monitors good - do you recommend them

and eep, what is dual boxing? ta

Dual boxing is when you play any MMORPG simultaneously by logging in with two accounts.

I like my Samsung 226BW's a lot.
16:9 Aspect ration. 1680x1080 resolution. 2ms response time so it's pretty good for gaming and watching videos or hooking up to game consoles.

There's some debate about the different panels that the model ships with (i.e. the A vs S vs C panel debate), but I haven't had any problems with mine.

Truthfully, the only thing that occasionally bothers me is that when I have the monitor on, there's a blue circle of light around the power button on the physical screen. So when I'm playing in the dark with both monitors on, my immersion into gameplay (or when watching a movie) is detracted by the glowing power buttons on my display...but then again, I also use Saitek Eclipse II keyboards, so I guess I should shut up about the monitor power light...

I forgot to mention that I hated the stand/base on the LCD. It's a fixed base, so you can't rotate the monitor or raise it higher like you can do with some of the Dell monitors.

I solved this by using VESA desk mounted LCD arms, which turned out to be a good call, so now I can swing out my monitors to get back desk real estate to work on laptops or other projects.

Thanks for replying - The Monitor reports 1280x1024 - Windows reports 1680x1050. I have tried the monitor with another computer and it boots up in native every time. I am using a DVI cable. It is really annoying me and I can't understand why it does this...

Any help would be appreciated.

Oh and yes the monitor itself is superb - the second one I have bought (first one for my brother). For th price you can't get better.

Feel so stupid but I tried the Dell driver and it now works. THE NBF driver was great and stable but just didn't like the second monitor. Thanks to all who helped.

One last thing - Eep - which driver do you use? Not sure I should stick to stock Dell drivers as the NBF driver gave me good performance....

Which 226BW driver are you using?

I'm using Samung Driver 3.0.0.0 (driver dated 10/30/2006) for my monitors. I think I got it when I did a Windows Update and clicked on the Optional Hardware updates.

Samsung appears to have an updated driver on their website, dated 3/14/2007.

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/do...&disp_nm=226BW

I don't know what driver shipped with the monitor.

I use the Dell stock Nvidia 7950 driver for my m1710, because I wanted to make sure that it supported my bluray drive.

Ah cool thanks Eep - well I will stick with stock drivers and see how they go - I only play WoW anyway so it should all be fine. Might update the monitor driver but to be honest it all seems fine so if it aint broke don't fix it!

Yes I have the EXACT same monitor, and was having the EXACT same issue about two weeks ago! I quickly learned that it was the NBF drivers. the stock dell ones or the stock nvidia ones do not have the same problem.

In fact I would highly recomend the stock nvidia drivers along with running dell quickset. with this combination whenever your LCD is plugged in and turned on and you close the lid of the laptop, it will automatically switch over to the LCD. I now have the Dell 2408WFP and I can report the same issue with that so the stock drivers are a must for people who game externally!

Cool thanks for the Advice HaCKS It is a great combo - was thinking of a 24 inch but to be honest couldn't really justify the extra £100.... If the Dell stock drivers give me any hassle in games then i will switch to Nvidia stock. For now though all is sweet
