hi people,

I am planning to buy the alienware M15X (the $1,499 one with 1.8Ghz C2D and Geforce 8600M Gt) Ofocrse im customizing it so it will be better I plan on spending $2200 in total with tax and shipping. All i need to know now:

1. How does alienware ship? (this is my first time buying online) Will they steal my money? Does the box of Laptop gets put in front of my door so someone can steal it, or does a mail man come with box and delivers to house by hand? (PS I live in CANADA)

2. Is their quality top notch? I mean am i gauranteed satisfaction? Will it ship with scratchs? Does alienware refurbish used M15x's and then sells them?

3. Is it safe for me to type my credit card info on their site? Is the Geforce 8800GTX a true chip from Nvidia? Is the harddrive with cache not buggy?

4. Finally: When will this new cheaper m15x come out?

thankyou

Hello michael63000,

I recommend having Alienware ship the machine to an UPS/FedEx 'r' Us type place in your community. That way you have no worries on the BS you described on receiving the machine. They will sign for it and then you can pick up from them at your convenience. Alienware quality is definitely top notch, no refurbish (please read and understand the Warranty fully before purchasing)...last machine I bought had a blurb about a 7 day period that you the end user were to inspect the machine and call in if anything was not right. I highly recommend inspecting the machine vs. the invoice immediately whether that is a requirement anymore or not.

I would call in the order instead of clicking out on the Configurator. The Configurator is totally safe, but a real human being and an email address, phone ext. can go a long waze during the build/ship process.

The 8800GTX/HDD cache questions I have no idea.

Make sure your parents are advised of all recommendations...

To add to Boyd's comments. Alienware won't steal your money if you order on the net, but ordering by phone may give you more peace of mind.

Quality is good ... your system will not be refurbished. If it's scratched when you receive it ... take pics and call them immediately (this is generally not an issue).

When shipping by Fedex, the computer must be signed for by someone at your house, unless you make other arrangements. They won't just leave it by the door.

Since you're in Canada, you may also have to pay customs fees ... best to check ahead of time and know if that's the case.

the laptop will come in a plain brown box with an alienware box on the inside... the computers that I have bought from alienware have been top notch and not an imperfection in the computer... There are no refurbish parts placed into a new computer from factory... this would be against the law for them to sell something new with refurbished parts unless it was stated at the time of purchase... In the US you have to sign for the computer before they will give it to you... IN the US they use Fedex and a signature is required for delivery if your not there to sign then you will have to go the the Fedex place to pick it up or wait the next day to sign for the package... alienware is not going to steal your money take it from me im on my fourth alienware computer and I wont buy anything else...

Ok thanks guys... I still have 3 more questions:

1. Is the Battery life good (when non gaming) ?
2. How do i pay custom fees, and everything when im in canada? I'm going to buy by phone instead of net
3. Does Fedex ship to canada, or do they just ship to canada post (our postal service) and let them ship to us? If i miss it, do i just go to the nearest Postal Service store?

dont really know about the battery life but ur suppose to be able to have the smart bay for an extra battery... with the new processor and new vid card its suppose to use less power... you would have to call alienware about the custom fees etc...

You guys forgot one of my questions (My MAIN one :P ) When is the cheaper ($1,499) M15x come out? I'v been wating from January 10

If you configure your system through their Canadian website the shopping cart will automatically calculate the import taxes in your location.

Alienware will charge these taxes at the time of purchase, this means that you do not need to pay anything else when receiving your system and it will be delivered directly to you.

Yea but with wat service? Fedex or Canada Post (I never saw fedex truck in canada btw) SO if i buy online the taxes are already calculated into my bill?

You know, you can have all your questions answered if you go to the web site, configure and have it just about ready for final commitment. It gives you everything you are asking about without the worry of hitting the order button, unless your finger spasms and you click it by mistake.

They send them via FedEx but you may get a local carrier to deliver it to you.

If you buy online the taxes are already calculated in the bill.

When will cheaper m15x come out? this is the one im buying
post #16 of 25
no one knows when the other one is coming out you will have to call alienware for that info... they are probably going to try and sell as many 8800 cards and higher processors before they release a cheaper version more money in their pockets...

Alienware hasn't said anything about the less expensive(not cheaper) m15x, so on one knows.
It's best to wait, as people that instantly ordered the m15x didn't get the Penryn Processors.
Also, the m15x had a "Stealth Mode" button built into the touch sensitive keys on the top, the stealth mode basically decreases the performance by 50% so you can have a longer battery life.

OOo, i just did some reserch on alienware.ca and they say for the smart bay that the optical drive is removable,to add extra HDD or Batery. In the option list for m15x alienware.ca it only sais HDD's are they also battery (i mean do they supply the laptop with BATTARIA? )
Yes, the laptop comes with a main battery of course(connects at the back) !

Yea i like stealth mode. Do you think the Area 51 m15x has a fingerprint reader? It will be great for protecting accounts: )

Yup only smart people wait (like me, even though im not smart, and just a 13 year old developing boy still *I just want to get the sexy stuff "less expensive" * )

Well I just hope the cheaper m15x has the option for 3GB Ram and Geforce 8700M or 8800M
