GPU Thermal Issue - Inspiron 1420 with Nvidia 8400GS

Hello!:

This is my first thread in this forum, I have an Inspiron 1420 with a Nvidia 8400GS and I think that it have thermal problems.

When the system is in Idle (chating, listening music, surfing in the web, etc) the GPU temperature is about 50-55°C, but when I'm playing or using demanding programs (like C&C3, Halo 2, Doom 3, 3D mark 2003, etc) the GPU temperature rises to 85-90°C, i think that this temperatures are not normal!!!.

What do you think about this?. Should I call Dell's support for assistance?.

Thanks for the help!!!

PD: the GPU's temperature was read with Everest Ultimate edition, I8kfanGUI and Rivatuner. I have Windows Vista Home Premium.

Not out of the ord for demanding games! Remember that there is not a huge amount of space for heat dissipation in that laptop. You can do a few things to help this though, such as setting the fans more aggressively in fanGUI, and improving airflow by propping up the back of the laptop (put a bottlecap under each side at the back, so it angles up). Alternatively you could get one of those notebook USB platforms with built-in fans.

Thanks for the answer!... I bought a notebook platform and the temperature drops some degrees... I suppose that the space inside the notebook is a limitation for the heat dissipation. Yesterday I opened the notebook and I saw the dissipation system, and I felt very dissapointed. It's a common piece of aluminum ( I guess) but the worst thing is that it is not in direct contact with the GPU core (there is a gap between the core and the sink), but a "thermal pad" (like bubble gum) fills the space between them. I think that Dell could do a better job in this matter.... well , when the warranty expires i think that I will do something about this... jejeje
