Dell XPS 1710 Help Reverting Vista Back to XPS

Thread Starter
I have a Dell XPS 1710 and am trying to get it ready to sell. I bought it with XP on it and later upgraded it to Vista.

It also has Media Direct on it via a partitioned drive.

I am looking for step by ste instructions for dummies to help me revert it back to XP.

Dell has just sent me copies of all the original CD's to do this however, I am not savvy on how to begin.

I am assuming I have to format eveything, again create a partition drive etc but unclear really.

Thanks for any help in advance.

PS - If you have the patience please walk me through the steps particularly in a clear manner on how to format and partition the drive.

I will have no problem once I get beyond that and installing the media direct software...

i personally do not believe that reinstalling an operating is being part of the sale of an used laptop. If the laptop will be offered with an OS, and the COA key is valid and the recovery disks available - seller does not have to install it. Just state it the selling advert

cheers ...

All you need to do is use the Dell Restore CD's boot-off of it, and follow the on-screen-promts, what you want to do is called a Full Factory Restore this option will format the drive ,just the way it was when you 1st purchased it form Dell ,and took it outta the box ,and turned it on............very simple just as ghn stated, you don't have to install anything, however, I would wipe the drive clean tho, (before I sold it) so, whatever it has installed Vista or XP, it's a sellers advert and your choice to make..............
