too bad you can't replace the HD easily like the MB
post #3 of 35
To Clarify I believe the LED screen is still on the MBP only. Same with the multi-touch. Memory got doubled on the video cards but the video was not actually upgraded beyond that, and of course that was only on the MBP.

Eh, I am happy with my Santa Rose LED MBP Not to torn up about missing this one.

The HD on the black MB got a boost in its standard config. Really if the MBP upgrades were slightly under whelming, the MB upgrades are practically a joke to be honest.

Sorry to not clarify, i was really only pointing out specs on the MBP. I wouldn't jump for joy over this but it is the biggest change in a while.

I myself am gonna stick with the MBP SR, since i don't really care about the touchpad.

I have the Penryn MBPRO and Im veryy happy with it!

so..which would you get, new (peryn)2.4 or refurb 2.4 (from..3 weeks ago)?
Silly small updates from Apple and not really worth the hassle of trying to sell to upgrade or definalty not worth an extra $500-$800 over the previous models.

But why? lower chache a good tradeoff for a longer battery? (anyone know how of a throughout comparison of them?)

I heard its actually a big quicker regardless of the cache.

Just pulled the trigger on a new MBP Penryn 2.4. I heard the difference isn't much, but with my educational discount pushing the price down to 1799 it made sense to spend the extra $150 from the refurb 2.4 SR. I really like the touch pad similar to my iphone as well as the potential increased battery life and decreased heat. I've also heard that the performance difference between the 2.4 and 2.5 with 512VRAM is minimal if you aren't doing serious video/image editing and rendering. And even then who knows how big of a difference the extra cache and .1GHz would make.

It would still be minimal.

so, commish. Guess this means no Alienware

Congrats on the new MacBook Pro. I've got the 2.4 Santa Rosa model and it's a dream.

Ordered online with my student discount. Should arrive on Tuesday (I paid for 2 Day Shipping and it left Shanghai today) I went with the 2.4GHz Penryn base model, with added apple care. Gonna hook it up to my Dell 2007WPF. Also bought the Griffin Elevator and a new Booq Folee XM bag.

Now I need to figure out if i want to go with the full body Inivisible Shield or the Speck Black Case.

I'm soooooo sooo tempted to buy one now that I have the money to.

I'm debating whether I should wait for the next iteration, however. I really want a new one since my PowerBook is starting to show it's age but it still does everything I throw at it so I'm very conflicted.

The screen is acting up, however—I think the power cable to the backlight is on the fritz—and I don't know if I should try and fix it when it finally goes or if I should just buy a new one.

:sigh:

Acting up in what way? Just curious as mine (Powerbook) started having problems with colors going on the fritz, but I never could tell any rhyme or reason to it. It would happen some times and not others, and would flicker when it did.

The backlight flickers and goes out entirely sometimes. If I open and close the screen it will come back on. I think the power cable is either loose or starting to break.

Yea not the same as mine. Ah well.

Yeah I spent as much as the AW, but decided to go with Apple for now. The customer service ratings are phenomenal and my visit to the Apple store was convincing.
