1330: LED LCD- White spots on screen, Cust. suport says all LED scrns defective?

I havea 1330 with the LED screen. Love the screen, but am now about to have it replaced, fir the third time.
The first time, there was a white circle on the screen, viewable only when a full-white screen was being displayed, roughly the size and location of the "dell" logo on the back of the machine. Also a few bright white dots, again only viewable when against a white screen.

On the first and second replacements, there are radom white dots.. about the size of underscore (_). about six on the screen. Again, only viewable when against a white screen.

Dell is telling me that this is "norml" for the LED, that they'll replace the screen, but thatI can expect to see the dots on the next screen.. It looks like SH!T, and destroys an otherwise awesome screen... has anyone any experience with this?
At this point, If I see these white dots on the next screen, I'm going to ask for to be "downgraded" to a normal LCD.

Anyone else with this problem?

Yes, I have heard of this problem before. There is a rubber/foam support ring behind the screen, right where the Dell logo in.

The ONLY reason that you have this problem is because you are somehow putting pressure from that support ring onto your screen. You doing something like putting objects on the laptop when it's closed, not protecting it when it travels and allowing the lid to flex inward, using your laptop as a coaster, etc. Find out whatever it is you are doing, and stop doing it.

It is not a manufacturing defect of the screen (otherwise, the pixels would be everywhere, not just in a ring). Find out what is causing the lid to flex into the screen, and fix it.

The reason that Dell would not replace your screen is because your description sounds like dead pixels... which ARE normal in LCD manufacturing. Tell them that there is a halo of bright dots... several of them, and it is preventing you from using your laptop screen. The end result is that you need someone to come out and replace your screen, and you need to fix whatever is causing the "flexing" in the lid.

Thanks-- but the "halo" issue was only present in the first screen I had. I'm now on my third screen. The second two didn't have the "halo" issue, just random bright white spots scattered thoughout the screen. And not just a minor, little spec... like I said, these things are about the size of a typed underscore _

Also, I didn't say dell *wasn't* going to replace. They said they *were* going to replace, since I have their UBER replacement program. They just weren't very happy about it, and tried to convince me that any other screen I get would have the same white spots "out of the box".

When you get it replaced, you may also want to ask them to replace the lid of your laptop. There may be a slight bend in that, causing the same problem to show up. How you get them to do that is up to you.

Just as an FYI... when the letter "E" fell off from my Dell logo on my XPS1330, they replaced the entire lid.

no worries-- after five visits from tech support (a guy came today and had a defective screen), they're sending e a new laptop.

I just noticed the same thing on mine - two white spots on white backgrounds. I got the lappy about 3-4 months ago and just now noticed them (and I am pretty OCD about screens). Will they replace it under my extended warranty?
