The 167.51 Dell driver is not an official release...they posted it as a "performance" driver with minimal testing. It also lacks WHQL certification unlike their official drivers.

you can download it from the dell support page. there is one 101.XXX and the other one is this one. yes, it is described as a performance driver with limited checking. but i think it's as good as official, until now they uploaded the 84.63 nvidia one as a performance driver, too.

i tried the 167.51 one now (playing cod4 multiplayer) and i need to say it's really good.
sometimes i don't see a lot of differences between drivers, just the old ones perform bad with newer games. some have problems with controlling the clocks (i.e. running at max power while on desktop). and i have the feeling, some make the card gets hotter than others.

with the mentioned driver i have a nice gaming performance, card stays cooler while in idle state, screen goes off when lid is closed and the control of the clock speed seems good. and you can oc with stock bios. good driver.

the last one i was happy with was the 169.04, now i have to try this one also with other games (gow, bioshock, all that stuff). when i have some more time.

Nice info guys.... Parts of this thread should be added to the overclocking guide so people are more aware that they don't need to flash their card anymore...

This is a thread about a video driver specific to Dell laptops.

I have been using both 167.51 and 169.04 drivers on 7900 GTX (E1705).

It seems to me that after a bit of benchmarking, the 167.51 are better but run the GPU hotter at max. 87 C.

The 169.04 ran cooler (77 C) but in 3dmark06 there was a decrease of about 150 points.

I think I will stick to the first ones, untill now they seem to be the best drivers for 79xx series.

Right now I get about 6000 points in 3dmark06 (default settings).

On my 7800 GTX, the 167.51 driver actually reduced the temperature read according to i8kfangui. I doubt it is running cooler; I'm pretty sure it just changed the offset. With other drivers I would idle at 54C but with the 167.51 it idles at 44C or less.
