At a stump here, what should I do?

I currently have an AMD Brisbane 3600+ with a mild overclock at like 2.5Ghz, I can go higher but it requires a heavy bit of tweaking to get it to 2.9Ghz stable, haven't really fooled around with it to get it there, as all the desktop does it run Ubuntu w/ SAMBA and F@H...

My question is should I upgrade the CPU in my current system? AM2, Biostar 550 motherboard; Buy an Intel LGA775 Motherboard with a C2D or Q2D processor?

Spending the least amount of money is always the highest priority, but I want the best bang for the buck.

If I go Intel, which motherboard and which CPU will give me the best performance per dollar? Overclocking is, in most cases, always a must.

I'd like to keep things under $200 though, if I can. Going over would be fine too. I almost thought about building a CHEAP ass folding system, just to fold on. Spending around $300 for..

Intel Motherboard
E4500 C2D CPU
2GB DDR2 800
CD-ROM drive (already have)
Flash Drive (cheapest, like 1gb for $6)

Just to run as a folding unit, then later turning it into a HTPC. Just not sure which "cheap" motherboard I should get that'll still be a GOOD overclocker.

Look at the reviews for the Gigabyte P35 DS3R. It looks like it's selling for around $130 now.

I couldn't find it on the egg, only one I found was unavailable/deactivated.

Well, it was a decent board. Looks like everyone is getting ready for the X48 and P45. You might want to wait until later this month. The X48 cometh mid-March, the P45 (P35 replacement) anywhere from late March to mid-April.

Do I really want to get a $130/$150 dollar board though with a $200 budget? I mean, I'm not knocking your help or opinion, just asking.

$130 for the motherboard, then another $130 dollars for an Allendale e4500? There aren't any cheaper; like micro ATX, motherboards that can have mild overclocks? Not looking to break records, just building a cheap folder that will act as a file server and later, a HTPC.

You can get the E4500 for less than $100! [MicroDirect for $83]

It's tough to recommend a board much cheaper...as it may not offer even the most simple array of overclocking tools, abilities, or stability.

What about this board here?

I can't view the Egg from work - teh internet filter nazis are killin me. Which board is it?

The price is for an OEM E4500 out of a Micro Direct Catalog (my IT guy drops them by for me to peruse because I can rarely look up parts at work). Not sure if the two are the same.

Looking at Google, Ebay and a few others have it listed just under or right at $100.

Its the GIGABYTE GA-G31M-S2L LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX board. Only $70.

If the price of that OEM e4500 is out of a catalog, just curious as to how that will help me if I can't it?

It's simply what I use for a quick reference at work...it is $83.99 + $12 shipping w/discount. I figured you could find it on the net for that.

As far as the board goes, keep in mind the G31 is an Intel chipset with integrated graphics. But from what I've read, it seems like a decent board.
