the 9400 and m1710 probably only need bios update to get this card working

What , they are a different form factor are they not? This card is in the same style as the 8800m. You'll have a hard time getting this working in a 9400 or m1710

Decide for yourself.

I've actually seen a 6300 in person, and the heat pipe/fan arrangement looks similar, from what I could see through the vents. Somebody would need to open one up to tell for sure, though. And then there's the matter of the BIOS.

Well the laptop can look similar but its whats under the hood that matters. If its not the same form factor then theres no chance.

Plus then we need the power adapters, BIOS, drivers and of course worry about heat

it may in fact need more than just a bio update. it may need different chipset/hardware.

like the d900c needed a diff mobo when the 8800 came out because it lacked certain things.

To be honest it looks a lot like the 9400 as far as the chassis is concerned. It would not surprise me if they do have another modo specifically designed to fit this existing chassis which supports creastline CPU's and holds an fx3600 - now this is great news, it extends the slim possibility that fitting a 6300 mobo into a 9400 would open the door on the next line of CPU's and GPU's

So how has the $$$ to find out!!!

I'm betting its about the same form factor, at most some differences in indentations in the heatsink. None of this matter though as you won't be able to use it on a M1710 or 9400.

I agree it's likely it's the same form factor, so if you can replace the mobo & CPU & get a FX3600 then you "may" have a FX3600/8800GTX singe GPU solution within a 9400 form factor. Mind you the cost of the mobo, CPU and GPU possibly pushes this way out there!!!!

what would be the point of that??

just buy a Clevo with single 8800m gtx for like 1800 bux.

One could attempt to replace the mobo from the 9400/M1710 with the one from the M6300, upgrading to a Santa Rosa processor, and upgrading the videocard. Everything else, I would think, would be a straight swap (RAM, etc) unless the connectors for the touchpad, LCD, keyboard, and fans were different, in which case, it'd be a headache.

i would be willing to try on my m1710 if someone was willing to give me the parts to do it with...

Buy the parts.

haha I think all of us would be willing to try if we got the parts for free. I don't even want to know how much that mobo would cost.
