Dell Warranty Replacement - Am I getting short ended?

I am new to posting on this forum but have been reading for quite a while. I would like some opinion's on whether Dell is screwing me on my notebook replacement that is covered under my Complete Care Warranty after I ran over my old laptop.

My old system was a Inspiron 6000 w/ the following specs:

Intel Pentium M 750 (1.8GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
15.4 WUXGA LCD
1 GB, DDR2, 400MHz (which I upgrade to 2GB later on)
128MB ATI Mobility Radeon X300
60GB Ultra ATA HD 5400RPM
Windows XP Pro
8X DVD +/-RW Drive
Intel PRO/Wireless 2915 (802.11 a/b/g, 54Mbps)
80 Whr 9-cell battery
Dell Wireless Bluetooth 350


They originally tried to give me a new inspiron, which in my opinon is a POS. I attempted to get them to give me an XPS system, but no go. They have decided to give me a Latitude D830, which I personally think is a lot bigger/heavier then my Inspiron 6000 and is one of my gripes.

These are the specs on the D830 -

Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 (2.00GHz) 2M L2 Cache, 800MHz Dual Core
Windows XP Pro (Which is fine with me)
15.4" WUXGA LCD
1GB DDR2-667 SDRAM
128MB NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M (is this any better than the X300, I watch movies and design graphics).
Dell Wireless 360 Bluetooth
8X DVD+/-RW
Intel 4965 802.11a/g/n Dual-Band Mini Card
9 Cell Battery
80GB HD, 9.5MM, 5400RPM

I appreciate everyone's opinion on whether I should be asking for the XPS system still or if this is sufficient. From the pictures of the D830 I've seen it looks like a tank (a lot bigger than the Inspiron 6000 and a lot heavier).

you got a replacement that is equal or greater in value/specs

so just be happy you got somthing

weight and bulky-ness arent under the agreement thats in the warranty

thats a nice rig you got IMO


so no, you didnt get jiped, screwed, bamboozled

and that graphics card is better than the x300

D830= Weight: 6.17lbs
6000D= Weight: 6.65 lbs (w/ 6 cell battery)

And honestly, ive owned a 6000D, id take the D830 over it any day even if they were the same specs, at least its any color but silver/white mixed.......ugh

the d830 does not seem like it's much bigger. if you're one to notice a difference with it being a quarter inch wider and a tenth of an inch longer, then you'll surely notice it being that tenth of an inch thinner. the system you got will be faster and more responsive with the dual core over the older pentium M. other than that, i think it's basically the equivalent system that you could get now, compared to what your specs were back then.

Looks like you came out way ahead on this deal!

Just got a D830, but my four year old D800 tops that Inspiron.

You are going to love the feel and performance of your new D830.

It also has a better chance of surviving a "..ran over..." than any Inspiron or XPS

Perhaps, in being such a new user to the site, I am out of place to criticize others...but come on, YOUR mistake damaged your old laptop, and you demand a better one than you originally had? That's absurd, they should be putting you on a waiting list for refurbished copies of the same model and specs you had before.

I'd take whatever they offered...there's no law a company has to honour a warranty, contrary to popular belief, so if you end up with nothing because you asked for too much it'll be what was coming to you, IMHO.

I should clarify, I don't want to come off rudely, but it really seems you're asking for too much.

Warranty replacements offered must be as good as or better than the original. Otherwise it wouldn't be a valid replacement.

The concern here was that he thought the replacement laptop was bigger/heavier than his original one, which could be considered worse in a certain respect.

However, they offered him a laptop with 2.5x the CPU power (1.8GHz Pentium-M to 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo, means higher clockspeed, more performance per-clock, and going from single core to dual core). That is a HUGE performance increase, and a major upgrade. Assuming the notebooks are about the same form factor (and considering the faster GPU to boot), this is an extremely good warranty replacement offer by Dell.

Wow - a D830 is a MUCH nicer & faster machine than the Inspiron. You got a great deal. Those Latitudes are much sturdier, too - it should last a long time.

Dell Warranty

Years ago I bought a Dell Inspiron for about $2500.00 around 2001 with a complete care warrenty. I have bad luck , really bad luck with my systems. I loose everything a day before I plan to back it up. I have lost like three systems. With the complete care warrenty and the system renewed several times. Dell keeps selling me a new warrenty. What system should I have today? A $2500 2001 system or a $2500 2009 system?
What is the equal or greater value thing?

Depending on which model you will be looking at. Price is lower nowadays with better specs for sure.
