Thinking about getting a dell m60 laptop....

Hello all, after about a year of having my Ibm t21 laptop, it's really falling apart, im finally ready to get another laptop, but now i want one that's fairly cheap but still works well with games. Now i dont want a really hardcore gaming laptop, that's why i was thinking about getting an m60. I found one on ebay and thought it seemed like a really great deal.

so there it is, now i think that's a good deal, but i wanted to know if any of you thought differently or agreed with me. I just want to play some MMORPG games that you can download off the internet. The requirements aren't so high so i thought this would just be a great laptop to have. What do you guys think?...

Has a chunk of plastic missing by the pcmcia slot shown in the pictures below. Nothing internal is bad just the cosmetics of the system. .
Take that to mean that it might be a little bit 'beat-up'

Price is Ok at open bid, would not go much more.

Dell Finance had a lot of them last year at 5-700 but that is not equal to eBay.

They still have 3 pages of M60 clones or D800s only one I saw w/128MB VRAM though, but it has a 100 day Dell Warranty and a 21 day return option..

All M60's have 128MB VRAM but they are even more 'business oriented' than D800's not the best at games.

Latitude D800/Precision M60's are built to take a beating and keep on ticking though.

RAM Memory 1GB RAM DDR @ 266Mhz
The M60's sold after April 2004 had 333MHz RAM.

It would be a top quality built system, but with the price of new LapTops so low now, you could do a lot better from a performance standpoint with your $375.

I owned an M60 back when they were new,and to me the quality of them was pretty disappointing, much like the same era inspiron 8600,very plasticy,creaky,flexy.......the later models of the precision line [M70,M65] are a far different beast.

The quadro FX700 graphics are not much chop by todays standard for gaming, they also ran extremely hot +90deg C.

Your better off getting something newer and cheap with a 6600/7600 nvidia or ATI X700/X1600.

I wouldn't buy that laptop for 350 USD....its too old,too slow, has obviously had at least one hard knock, and generally a bad buy IMHO.

For not much more money,I think you would get a considerably newer second hand laptop,as that ones heading for four years old and the recyclers

Well. It has GOT to be better than my 8mb video card that is in my ibm t21...but if you dont think that's a very good laptop, then what do you guys recommend me buying that's in a price range of 475-575?

Saw the offer below from Dell:
Quote:
VOSTRO™ 1000 LAPTOP
AMD dual-core processor
Genuine Windows® XP Home Edition or Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic
1GB memory* and 80GB* hard drive
DVD+/-RW burner
6-cell battery for up to 2:57 hours of battery life*

Featured at $419
Certainly not that I would know anything about the above offer other than it shows that your budget is within 'NEW' territory.

Buying a 'used' Portable, especially 'sight-unseen' like eBay, should be approached with the greatest of caution.

Although I have had great luck with the few eBay purchases I have done, for a Laptop, I would be more comfortable looking at what might be listed in this Notebook Forum's 'for-sale' board.

Costco, (if you have a local store) would be an excellent source, as they have the most liberal return policy. You can even buy Costco online and return to local store.
