Stuck on 20 FPS supreme commander: F.A.

I've been playing supreme commander and it's been working fine, but i just installed the expansion and for some odd reason in game play the FPS gets stuck at about 18-20 fps regardless of settings. I tried turning SLI off/on and that did nothing. when i go to the Options menu it jumps up to 90 FPS, but then i go back either into the game, or just to the main menu and it drops back down to 18-20. I've looked around on google and there isn't really anything there about it. I've installed all the patches so I'm not sure what could be causing this. All my other games are fine too.

At all main pages it's at 18-20, like the main menu, campaign menu etc. but when i goto options or some other things it jumps back upto normal FPS then back down when i exit

For as demanding as SC is Id say that sound normal given your system specs. If all other games work fine, Id say its moreso a problem with that game than your overall system.

It could be conflicting with drivers or the OS.

Well the thing is is that I can play regular SC at around 30-40 FPS with mostly high settings at 1920 x 1200, however I try to play the expansion with those settings and it drops down to 18-20 FPS. Every 5 seconds or so it freezes for a second and i hear a lag in sound. I dropped all the settings to lowest possible and it still stays at 18-20 with the freezing.

It just may be the game, I remember the original SC has some issues. Try the supreme commander forums

You have plenty of memory, so it shouldn't be using the pagefile...

Try going into the video settings, and turning down shadows and smoke effects (particles) if you can. Nvidia has a tough time with shadows and smoke. Also fiddle with the lighting settings if there are any.

Sounds like the expansion might be using heavier effects that slow the vid cards down. I'm also not sure that game is set up for SLI. Games like CS:S aren't set up for SLI, so they play as well with a single card, as with SLI.

i dont think the S.C. can use SLI... ive never seen anything that says it does...ill check my box and see if it does or not...

I don't know what kind of issue it is but I installed the patches off online websites not through the GPnet thing, so I'm just gonna reinstall and patch it the correct way

Yeah, reinstalling didn't do anything. just to clarify It's not something I think to do with my system capabilities, regardless of what settings this game is on it stays at 18-20 fps with stuttering every couple of seconds. I noticed when it stutters, the sound gets distorted and choppy, sometimes just pauses for a sec. This doesn't happen in the original Supreme commander at all, it runs smoothly at about 30-40 fps

Sounds like it's directly related to the expansion.

I'd scour forums for the game and see if anyone else is having the issue.

Some games recommend specific vid drivers, not sure about this game...
