m15x Skullcap Design ??

Thread Starter
anyone know when Alienware will release the Skullcap Design of the m15x ?

Also when you are on their m15x page it looks like in the little Flash intro the laptop is a dark shadow gray color but then other shots shows it silver... would be nice to have a darker color of the thing.

side note: wish the 8800M GTX didn't cost an extra $500

Thanks.

I was so close to buying one of these a couple of weeks ago. ........ It was one of those urges where you have it built, and its sitting in your shopping cart, and all you need to do is press 1 button.

yep ive been in the same boat looking at it in the cart and wanting to hit the button but just cant bring urself to it...

There has been no word yet on the Skullcap design that I have seen or heard. I too have configured a few, but pulled up just before hitting the button.

I hate to say this...but Alienware isn't doing a good job with the new m15x right now. They have so many parts on backorder right now, and the shipping dates just keep getting pushed back.

But, power to the person who has the patience enough to wait this long.

It will be interesting as well with the recent Clevo introductions with one of them being a 15" with a 8800M GTX in it.
Maybe the price will come down a little with some competition. (I know, I am dreaming, but one can hope!)

How low do you think it will go Scott? I'd say somewhere around the $2100 area. lol

What Clevo introductions scottwmp? Linky? 15.4" w/8800M GTX? The old Clevo.com website is 13 Jun 07 latest product news. Did they get bought out?

Irregardless, why would experienced owners buy 'Clevo' again? Is irregardless a word?

Sager was unleashing their new 15.4" beast on Cebit. here's the link.

There is also a 17" which they say is supposed to support the 9800m as well as 8800mGTX.

Um.... No.

They are waiting for the shrink 9800 die and so far Sager is one of the resellers for this one.

I have a Clevo 900T and have had no problems what so ever, and thats with the industrial cpu in it. Most problems that have been stated were heat related. Mine has plenty of ventilation and under chassis clearance and I have no notebook coolers either. This has been a steady machine for almost 4 years now.

As far as the 8800 supply running slow it just isnt AW with the problems all of them have it even Dell cant get them fast enough. Funny how others have dumped orders for the m15x because of delays in phase, just because of the 8800, only to find out that the Dells dont have them either putting their wait even further.

I believe that Alienware is not on a shortage of 8800mGTX's. Rather it seems that some of the chassis have defective cooling systems and right now they are trying to sort it out. A certain number of m15x owners from another forum are going through hell right now.

I would like to know what fourm you are getting this info from?

The chassis problem was discussed in the Notebookreview site. It was on a Dell forum that the word about the 8800 shortage was posted and it spread to most of the other Dell hang outs.

It was also discussed that the new 9xxx series is going to be a shrink die which maybe the answer to all of the above. Smaller is better for the cooling and chassis design. That maybe the hold up of the m17x as well along with the new CPU which will be out in May/June.

It is discussed in the Alienware forums on notebookreview.com. That's where I've been going to lately to read up news on the m8880GTX and m15x.

I'm glad to hear i'm not the only one making builds and just kinda...imagining what it be like to hit the order button lol

darn my conscious for getting in the way lol

i'm not too keen on the new look though, i liked the old design, made t look even more unique then it does now; still love them overall though!

lol. That's pretty normal to get really hyped about the new Alienware computer. I'm gonna wait until they work out their overheating problems before making the dive.

im sticking with my m9750 and hoping a 8800 card will fit in it... but this computer will get me by for atleast 3 years...

With the way that I would configure it, probably around the $2500-$2600 range. I still don't know if I would get one because I like the AW design. For me, my next purchase is also about the looks as well. Owning an AW has a certain level of prestige to it.
