with this new driver my LCD does not shut off when i close the lid.. is there any fix for this?
the dell website drivers worked for this, and i sleep with my laptop next to me and the light MUST be off when i sleep. (for me)

sorry in advance if this has been done 500 times, this is kind of a hard thing to search for..

Only the dell drivers will turn off the LCD with the lid closed.

Of course you can set the LCD to turn off after X idle time but its not quite as convenient as it instantly turning off.

oddly my screen shut off after about 30 minutes of being closed last night... i dont have an idle shut off time set though.... gah.. back to dell drivers. the battery savings is too nice.

i think he wants the laptop to continue running when the lid is shut, i personally would just set the display to turn off after 5mins in the power options.

i do a lot of file sharing as well as downloads over night. i also want access to my computer instantly in the morning as i dont have several minutes for it to turn on or wake up. ALSO i use the lid shut to turn the LCD off to save power if i need to be away from a 120v outlet.

setting it to shut off after 5 minutes would also not help as that would interfere with watching videos and movies as i do often. the only fix is for the drivers to work.

Hmm, all nvidia drivers under Linux support turning off the LCD on display close. In fact, I think they support lcd dimming as well. I guess nvidia just likes us more

there must be some sort of rhyme or reason to this!!

you have an m1705, i have a 1710.. gah.. WWWHHYYYYYYYYYY

edit: which "m" version are you using?

Well it is just a workaround but you could use that tool available at:
http://www.pcwelt.de/downloads/pcwel...s/tools/39930/

With it you can instantly switch off the display and you save the energy to close the lid.
works with XP and W2k3 and every nvidia driver

Vista has a built-in lid switcher, I don't know if you're using Vista onguarde, but XP has no such built-in feature.

Krayziepop and I were working to see if we could incorporate the Vista bits to XP, but I still haven't gotten around to looking into it further. Hopefully this weekend I'll have time to do it.

Its the 7900GS and other 79 series cards in question. Not the 6800's or the 7800GTX I believe.
