Give 174.31 a try. They're Dell drivers, and the lid switch works for me with these drivers.

i think it is the 7900gs card. i have a 9300 with a 6800U with the same XP install as a 1705 with a 7900gs. both machine is using the same mobileforce 92.44 drivers or something close to it. on the 9300, the screen does shut down when the lid is close but the 1705 machine doesnt do it. so im pretty sure it has to do something with the actually card or maybe the drivers corresponding with the cards.

I remember someone emntion with unlock BIO with Dell 174.31 will not be able to use Riva Tuner to OC. I don't see why.

I have unlco the BIO and set 600/700 since date one. I am running Dell stock 174.31 driver, and I am still at same speed instead of back to stock clock. I can still use Riva Tuner to up the clock.

i dont want to have to use the stupid dell drivers!!
i don't think the 167.51 dell one is stupid.
ftp://ftp1.us.dell.com/video/R176673.EXE
it works really nice for me.
great performance in games like cod4, lid turns off, you can oc with stock bios (use atitool) - best driver in my opinion.
i was using the nbf/lvtg drivers so far, as the 84.69 one was just to slow with new games, but now i'm pretty happy with the one dell offers for download.
