Ordered a 5690

I ordered a 5690 and am waiting for it to ship. But I'm reading things on this board about the small cracks on the screen support, noise, etc. Those who have one seem to love them, but is this anxiety in the making? I mean I'm careful with anything I buy, but I'm not sure if this purchase was a mistake.

Should I call and purchase a different model ?

i love the 56xx model...never had any problems like the ones they spoke of....i think they are just isolated incidents....just be confident and happy and smash some bananas!

Thanks for the vote of confidence !!

just dont over-flip the lcd panel cover too much,...else eventually it will crack like most of 56XX users

It doesn't happen to "most" of the 56XX by any stretch of the imagination. I have opened and closed my LCD about 2-3 times a day for the past 7 months and it has no cracks whatsoever.

The only thing I would have done different is ordered Windows XP Prof rather than Home so that hyperthreading will work. Home Doesn't support two processors from what I understand. Just my opinion. Can't wait to order mine Congrats on your purchase though

Simbiote17, I am interested in what you said re. XP home. I just received my 8790 today with XP home, and task manager shows two different CPU usage graphs. Even so, am I still not really using HT? That would be both okay and not because some programs I will be running don't support HT yet, and others do, so.....

Just to clarify this, both XP Home and Professional WILL support Hyperthreading 100%. XP Professional has additional support for two PHYSICAL processors, whereas Home doesn't. Hyperthreading is basically a VIRTUAL cpu, so it's not being disabled in XP Home due to the 1-processor limitation.

I have carefully look several times, especially while people were first discussing it on the forums. I was slightly understating how many times I open and close the lid as well, it's probably a little more than I stated. I'm just saying that it's not a super-common problem.

5680 vs 5690

what the difference between the 5680 and 5690? I see no actual difference. All the same options/upgrades/etc. same look.....?

I'm looking into buying this summer/fall; just doing my research and all of a sudden it changes!!!

The 5690 has the 128 MB Ati Radeon 9700, as opposed to the 5680's 9600. That is the only difference between the two machines.

What are the specs and price?

Confused. What is it that takes "that long" when paying via any of the cash methods? Most take less than a day.
