If BitMICRO is impressing with size and price Intel, with its upcoming solid state drives is planning to hit the big boys where it really hurts and that's speed. AMD's arch-rival is preparing to release a batch of 1.8 and 2.5-inch SSDs next quarter that are promised to have faster transfer speeds that the main competitors in this storage segment, Samsung and Mtron.

Going from 80 to 160GB, Intel's SSDs are expected to jump well over the 100/120 MB/s marks when reading and writing and will boast SATA 3.0 Gbps. Unfortunately, one thing Intel won't be able to do much to 'fix' is price and its SSDs will surely be pretty expensive as that a 'feature' of the flashy drives.
