9300 Upgrade

Thread Starter
I know theres not a lot you can do to the 9300 since I believe I maxed it out (for the most part). Anything else anyone can think about?

Pentium M 2GHz
2 GB DD2
7800GTX
80 GB HD
CD/DVD Burner

Pentium M 780 2.26GHz (or overclocked 1.6, 1.7, 1.8)
100GB 7200rpm drive ATA-6 or
200GB 7200rpm drive SATA

that's pretty much it

You could add another GB of RAM too, for a total of 3Gb of usable RAM. (You could add 4Gb, but you'll only be picking up an extra like 256MB, even though RAM is cheap these days, I don't think I'd waste my time with it.

1GB stick + 2Gb stick for a total of 3Gb

So you'll have to purchase a 2Gb stick of RAM; you could probably sell the 1Gb stick you replace it with or keep it for a spare.

I will also note that I have the 160GB 5400RPM drive and it loads faster than the 60GB 5400 RPM drive that replaced it, and some people even claim that it runs as fast as a 100GB 7200RPM drive in almost all cases, except data seeking. Due to disk density.

Hey Skillz,

I have an xps gen 2 and it's got 2GB of RAM already - you said that the 9300 (same thing in terms of memory) can do 3GB...are you sure?

The site below says that the max is 2GB..

He can't add anymore RAM due to the chipset. Its limited to 2 GB. The processor really isn't worth an upgrade and all you can really do is get a larger capacity HD. If you are a tinkerer, you may just find it meaningful to buy a 1.8 GHz 400 MHz FSB Pentium M (aka SL7EN) and pinmodding it to 2.4 GHz. This OC may not work and it will more than likely require more voltage.

Other than maybe upping my harddrive, I think mine is about as max'd out as it gets. Biggest issue I have is with heat on a few games, and I will drop the multiplier on my CPU in those rare instances. Still the CPU rarely gets over 55C in most games

I do pull my 9300 apart every few months and clean out the heat sink fins and fans real well - it helps a lot.
