Installing 2nd HDD on Amilo 3438G Laptop

I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M 3438G notebook (17" WXGA version) and would
like to install a second hard drive into it. From all the documentation I
have seen that came with it and going on comments on the Internet this is
possible - yet when I open up the back and look where the diagrams show
where it is supposed to go, there are no actual connections for it to
connect to.

I opened up the small bay where the original hard drive is and there are the
usual SATA connections. Yet when opening up the larger bay nothing like this
exists where the second hard drive is supposed to go - just a hard drive
sized gap.


The Fujitsu forums are closed until the 18th and I can't find anything specific
about this on Google. Has anyone installed a second HDD on one of these?

Yup, there are threads and posts all over the Internet about this one! I was very surprised to read about all the issues with it after having mine for 3 years without any problems...!

I can't see any reports of problems with setting up RAID or installing an extra hard drive in this laptop - only comments saying that they have done it.

I think I just need someone who has installed an extra drive into this to say just where/how they put it.

the only thing i can come up for u is the pic of a 2nd drive adapter on ebay (good for next 5 days), use it as reference and see

Thank you for your help - after some more digging around it appears I need to buy a 2nd HDD kit from Fujitsu/bloke on the street. Shame nothing that came with the laptop actually explains this.

may be u can help us all out after installing the 2nd drive and share pics with us

good luck, compare the kit price at the shop and on ebay before committing

I have emailed 'FSCparts@servicesource.co.uk' asking if they have such a kit (Fujitsu themselves don't appear to have them).

I found this Amilo forum which details exactly what you need and you can order the parts from some German seller - but to be honest it looks like too much faffing around and expense for what should really be alot easier.
