Widespread m15x problems?

I'm not sure how many of you follow other Alienware forums, but I happened upon this one over at notebookreview.com and was shocked to see the large number of disgruntled m15x owners. Most of the complaints seem to stem around heat dissipation issues and downclocking of the 8800GTX while gaming.
I'm currently in phase 4, but after reading all those posts, it's frankly gotten me a little worried...

seems like there are a LOT more than 1 thread i'm just getting ready to research them as it looks like my marketing/graphics person better just be happy with the precision notebook! LOL. I have like 15 tabs of different threads claiming problems and that is just in the last 4 days of started threads.

Cold blooded the way they treated Alienware-Steve over there.

Coupla real live goober smooches stirring it up. Why not pick up a phone and call the man instead of all the bashing?

Sometimes I'm feel like I'm just not knowing...

Most of the issues are:

over heating, which may or may not cause premature downclocking of cpu and/or gpu during regular usage
touch controls not working after hibernate/sleep
nothing really working after hibernate/sleep

also case stress cracks

case stress cracks wow?

I honestly can;t see this case cracking.

mine has been moved around lightly so far table to table with ease..

but i play everquest2 and this baby runs it just fine so im more than thrilled with my aw

im materialgirl on the AW forums and i have also been asking AW-Warner over there and had complained on day 3 or 4 of recieveing it about the touch buttons not working also.

i can't seem to find the old thread though... we might should start a new one.

i believe a bios update is in order to fix the hybernation and sleep/touch buttons.

how these minute problems slipped by is laughable.. though come AW fix these retarded bugs.

Check the upper left corner near the grill, there's a picture on that forum link somewhere of the cracks and many people didn't notice them until they looked at the picture and then scrutinized the case. Hopefully the new batch of chassis is fixing some of these problems. I'm hoping that's what is causing most of the delays.

I am glad I decided to wait.
No matter how much testing you do, you can never catch everything.
That being said, problems with the buttons after sleep hibernation seems pretty elementary.

1. The m8800GTX GPU downclocks once reaching the 85-90C mark. Definitely not overheating temps.

2. Unresponsive touch buttons.

3. Physical defects on the chassis. Cracks..etc.

4. Computer doesn't wake from sleep. (Most likely OS problems..I think)

Yeah, it makes the m15x not worth getting. But, I'm confident that Alienware will address these matters soon.

One of the latest threads was indicating that the problem could also be the fans:

I saw the pictures on engadget of the cracked cases. This looks like a design problem, imo. The case should not be cracking that easily.

That forum has been pretty unfair to Alienware in the past, there are some AW haters over there... Having said that, it does appear there are legit users having issues.

Alienware is aware of the issues and are trying to repeat them in the lab. From what I gather, it takes hours of gaming for the issue to show up for those that have it.

The case crack the one guy has posted looks very strange, it's right by the ethernet port where there are thin pieces of plastic. Not sure if that's a fundtional issue, but it would bother me if it happened to me. There seems to be a couple people with the crack, but most haven't seen that yet... Not sure the issue is bad enough for AW to replace complete cases...

From reading that thread, they are really trying to discourage the flamers and trying to post information that is helpful to owners of the m15x and those that want to purchase the m15x.

yep, word spreads fast. It's amazing what a bunch of e-mails can do.

So weird that you said that because I just made this post last week.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to reviewing this notebook and not sure my 30 days of time with it will reflect the issues that are currently going on. But I'll be observant.

Chaz from notebookreview had the same problem with his m15x review model from Alienware. Let's hope yours doesn't have the same problems Steve.

I'm glad I waited. Sold my m7700a to buy a m15x. Ended up buying a 7500 desktop from the outlet store on Ebay. I have bought two desktops and two laptops from them and they have worked great!!!! And I game them hard! I do not get the my hive with this one or the warranty but I trust there products. They can not test every day use by thousands of people. They will fix these issues. Bill Gates does the same thing with windows.
