Widespread m15x problems? - Page 3

I dunno...

The pics I saw showed a couple of very thin pieces of plastic at a stress point. Also, the upper piece appears to be pushed up rather than just broken. I wonder what is under that piece, and if there's adequate clearance from the metal parts underneath and the plastic case.

The problem I see coming is whether this crack is a functional problem or not. It's not likely to be something AW will cover as necessary if it doesn't affect performance. Spending hundreds of dollars a piece to replace a case for an aesthetic issue isn't something anyone does.

I agree. I do not own an AW yet, but I have seen AW take care of its cusotmers.
Any Manufacturer is never going to be able to please everyone.
I think it says a lot more about how they ultimately deal with a situation.
It seems that they are working hard first to reproduce the problem in their environment (which they have) and provide a fix, that is coming out.
Even those that have had problems seem to still be completely satisfied with their m15x.
When they resolve these issues, there will be a lot of happy m15x owners out there!

That is my 2 cents.

Hope I didn't kill this thread with my ranting?

Hm glad there is bios update for the underclocking issues. About the cracking issue, if there are numbers of people who are getting identical (or at least within the same area of the chassis) then we could address as design flaw or something. If not, it could be external factor (shipping etc.) or just accidents did by users themselves.

Those fed ex guys do toss those packages around. And I don't think the AW notebooks come in a black box anymore.

The cracking could also be caused by flex in the case. Anyone that has an m15x, is the case solid or does it have some play?

We ran into a problem once with an HP server that would flex in shippment and cause damage. It only appeared in shippments that went UPS or Fedex. If we paletized the server and sent it, we never ran into the problem.

The BIOS update still has not been released, and as far as we know it may a long time away..

I definitely think the cracking problem is an assembly or shipping issue.

m15x = very bad quality product

Unfortunately, I bought two m15x
The first one got : overheating problems, case breaking, dead GPU
Alienware changed Screen+GPU+CPU
The second one : dead HDD, Screen (screws falling out, hinge and case breaking), Smart-Bay (exterior plastic case breaking), Keyboard (distorted, unstuck keys)
Alienware changed HDD. I have to send back the PC to fix the rest of it.
I can tell now : m15x from Alienware is a very bad quality product.

Hehe... I did the same. I bought 2 m15x's and they were ultimately complete pieces of junk. The Alienware customer support is ridiculous. I'm currently using a macbook pro unibody and have been pretty happy with it. I've switched over to gaming primarily on my xbox 360 but I think I've given up on trying to find the ultimate "gaming" laptop. I've had nothing but bad experiences with AW. It was a fun laptop to "hack" on while it lasted...

For everyone who loves Alienware laptops as much as I do, I think I speak for MANY people who are in desperate need for an ACPI_BIOS_ERROR fix in the Alienware AREA 51 m15x so we can get windows 8 installed on it....I would like to create a "tablet" version of it someday with touchscreen and accelerometer support for it.
