I usually wait until someone else tests it for me... hehe, I don't like to monkey with drivers.

PS: But should someone try these out, please post the results!

This is not the drivers...From Rage3D:

"CATALYST is ATI's software suite. In other words it is more than just drivers. It is a software suite composed of drivers, multimedia center, hydravision, and remote wonder software. Today's press release is announcing availability of a new version of multimedia center. It is not referring to driver updates. CATALYST 3.2 will be made up of Multimedia Center 8.1 and driver version 7.84. The driver will be available shortly but is not available for download at the current time"

..once it becomes available for download...

Well...my 5660 is kinda the testbed

wait till I post the scores I get with those drivers - this had better be good...

Hehe, the old "Ooops, who authorized this release?" bit...

Well, I'll let someone else test them out before I even think about upgrading them.

Hi gsferrari, can you post how to install Catalyst driver? I've tried to install both Catalyst 3.1 and 3.2 on my system, but it won't let me install.... I can only install a new ATI Control Panel.
I love a new feature on ATI Control Panel... it let you rotate your screen : 90, 180, 270... I think it's useful when you try to use your labtop as a Table PC...

Instructions and My Results

Instructions for Installing Cat 3.2 :

Please see this thread :

http://sagerforums.com/forums/showth...3164#post23164

That is the updated driver installation instructions - thank you!!

I think I got that right anyway

Its hard to go through the install process because you've already got yours intstalled and some options might change because of that - but I think what I posted previously should get you there.

Post if you run into problems or else come to the IRC section and get some real time help lol

I just installed a new ATI Catalyst 3.2 driver last night. It run rock stable.... no error/system hang up so far...
Here is some benchmark score [3D Mark 2001 SE] :
Mobile 9000 Driver : 7122
Catalyst 3.2 Driver : 7136
Ps. run on default speed [no overclock]

I didn't see any difference in games performance between two of them.... but I do notice mouse/cursor seem to move much smoother/faster on new Catalyst driver... I don't know.... I might just feel that myself... lol....

I do prefer Catalyst 3.1 Control Panel. There is a rotate function in the 3.1, but seem to disappear in the new one.

Huh??

Thats weird - I never had the rotate tab in the 3.1 ??

I got that option only with the Catalyst 3.2.

And the control panel is the same for both of them by the way. Additional features depends on which card you select from the list for driver installation - I selected the Radeon 9000 series...

Congrats on a successdul 3.2 install. Yeah the mouse seems to be smoother lol

And benchmarks also run smoother!!

Hmm... that's weird

Hmm.... that's weird. I have a rotate tab in 3.1, but after install 3.2[Control Panel] the rotate tab is disappear.
There are a bunch of Radeon 9000 Series driver... I selected the last one before the Radeon 9000 - Secondary . ... that's interesting.
By the way I found this information on Tomshardware.com about what are improving in the new Catalyst 3.2 driver.

ATI Launches new WHQL Certified CATALYST Drivers Version 3.2.

Features and Enhancements Include:

- Selecting D3D 8.1 renderer in NASCAR 2003 followed by selecting Replay Studio in the main menu no longer results in the car having missing textures.

- Running the game Combat Flight Simulator 3 with 4x Anti-Aliasing enable no longer results in texture corruption being displayed.

- Freelancer shows no corruption in the menus for the RADEON 9700

- First posted driver to support the RADEON 9800

- CATALYST(tm) 3.2 corrects a problem with 2D applications running in the background that can cause a momentary reduction in frame rate (i.e." stuttering") in full screen Direct3D and OpenGL games.

- Specific instances of "stuttering" have also been addressed (e.g. Rallisport Challenge when the sun enters or exits the scene).

- Dungeon Siege frame rates are improved as much as 24% across multiple products, especially when running at higher resolutions.
Framebuffer read-back performance has improved dramatically (500% or more) in CATALYST(tm)3.2. This feature allows an application to retrieve a fully rendered frame from the graphics adapter and manipulate it or store it in the system RAM or on the hard disk.

- Vertex Shader performance has improved dramatically (as much as 100% in some situations) for our DX 8.1-class products such as RADEON 8500, 9000 and 9100. This brings significant gains to Vertex

- Shader intensive scenes such as the Battle of Proxycon and the Troll's Lair (both up 15-25% on RADEON(tm) 9000 PRO).

Is anyone loading these drivers with Win98 or are you ALL XP? For the life of me, all of the drivers I get from ATI fail to load ("Can't Find INF file" or something like that) no matter what I try. Yes, I've removed drivers. Yes, I've removed registry entries. Yes, I've tried installing them with the installer and without. Same thing every time.

I think 99% of us are on Windows XP, some are still on Windows 2000, and I imagine none are on 9x/ME.

For most of us "bleeding-edgers" there is no reason to be with 95/98/ME except for nostalgia (or a really cool older game that does not run in XP, then it's a dual-boot!)

If I want "bleeding edge" I f-around with some goofy Linux distro. XP isn't bleeding edge...it's spyware masquerading as an OS and a poor one at that. The only reason I run Windows at all is due to occasional work necessity or testing.

I presume it's uncessary to include a looong list of URLs pointing to all the reasons one ought not use XP, right?

Sure, as long as GAMING isn't on your list of "Bleeding Edge" (for me, Linux is "Bleeding Eyes" as one stays up many hours trying to get something useful out of it).

Don't get me wrong, I am neither a linux-hater or MS-lover, I use what works (and too many linux-lovers think that is code for a pro-ms stance... it's not).

I like to play Battlefield 1942... gee, should I try to run that in VMWare since it doesn't run under linux? Or Morrowind? Or any "bleeding-edge" game.

I appreciate your ideology, but it's just that: ideology.

I don't equate "bleeding edge" with the "need to run certain games." Believe me, I've got my win98 partition loaded right up with what I like :-)

That said...I still find it interesting that q3 under linux with the ATI drivers in RH8.0 ran shockingly faster than it did on the Windows side.

As for "staying up..." - I've spent 10x more time trying to get my friggin' Windows video drivers working (another 1.5h today) than I have on anything on the RedHat side :-)

Still - if you want to go with what works, why XP? I'm not aware of any XP-specific games yet.
