What all cards will work with the 9300? ATI x1400?

Hi All
I think my graphics card is pooping out. Looking for another economic alternative. Way back when I bought this 7800 GTX GO for $250 direct from Dell.....now they want $500+ for it.
I know the x300 (64 and 128 MB), 6800 vanilla, 6800 Ultra, and 7800 GTX will all work with this system...because I've owned them all:-)

ANyone know if these ATI x1400's will work?
I really need a card cheap as possible......going to have to quit gaming till I get a new PC.

I believe your choices are

X300
6800
and 7800

Not sure if there are any other choices

Um my post already said this........
I guess you are just post whore.
Thanks for the bump

No, just pointing out the limitations

I belive the BIOS is your problem, it will not reconize the 7900 series cards. I do not know anyone who tried a x1400, but would guess the same BIOS issue

Don't give him that attitude. He was just trying to explain that he believes those are the only options.

I do indeed think btw that the x1400 does not work in the 9300 due to bios.

Add the x600 to the OP's list. That's pretty much it. There may be some equivalent quadro's here or there.

I am pretty sure the 7900s don't work because they wont physically fit. I believe it's the keyboard connector and/or power/led connector that is in the way of the new 7900 series card.

The x1400 will not work either.

Your best bet will be to find a cheap x300 64/128 card on ebay, might be able to find a cheap 6800 Vanilla card as well.

zzpulp beat me to it but yes the x600 from the d810 will work if you swap heatpipes.

The x600 from the d810 looks like the way to go. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE TIP. I've been having trouble finding any x300's.....except from Dell.

I guess I'll have to find an ATI heatsink.......I would guess the one from the nvidia card would not work.

I think the ones from the nvidia card is the same as the ati card since they are designed to fit in that system.

OK, I wanted to follow up with what I learned, and give everyone a big THANKS for helping again.

The ATI x600 fits and works in the machine no problem. I had to flash my bios back to the I9300 for it to work. The heat sink that came on the x600 will work fine if you don't mind to drill one small hole in it. There is a tab that sticks down in the 9300's palm rest that needs a place to go.
Other than that it will work just fine.
Also, I can confirm that the nivida and ATI heatsinks will interchange
I have a atix600 in the 7800 GTX heatsink right now in my system......hopefully the extra heatpipe will help keep it runnnig a little cooler.
I use this laptop in extreme heat(110 degrees F) so it will probably be a little easier on the card.
It's really wierd having some battery life now. I show four hours of battery life on a full charge.
Also, its wierd not hearing the fans RUNNING all the time.
I can get used to things being this quiet!
The 9300XPS gaming machine is offically retired.

awww.
how is the performance though?
I'm guessing the performance is about 2/3 to 3/4 of a 6800 go vanilla. I'm thinking about getting an X1400 for my machine for this same purpose though.

Performance? Ha!
You mean battery life?
I just ran 3dmk05 and I scored around 1500.........
This was pretty much what the x300 did too.
I do remember these cards are good overclockers.......but it seems kinda pointless to me.
The fans perform quiter.
The battery performs longer.
The graphics do not perform and it's hard to find a decent driver.......I'm still dealing with some screen flicker issues at start up and when going from AC to battery power.

Ouch, you're right. That card is bad (performance at least). Oh well, battery life ftw.
