i see the things that happen to other forum members such as fenuxx, and i still cant believe dell is pulling this whole double standard thing with the replacements... hope all works out well for everyone still in talks with dell.
well lets hope it works out for you.

Seems lately Dell has done alot of back stepping after offering things like this.

and at least two folks here had used damaged latops sent to them

well i was just reading the article about fenuxx on consumerist.... i cant believe some of the comments that are there... while its true that the whole matter is suspicious.... he has been keeping us updated here... and on top of that, if he was actually attempting to scam dell, i dont think he would flaunt it by blowing the whole story on the internet.....

but i guess you have to understand where dell is coming from...

You're right. And I'll be the first to admit that it all "sounds strange" and is "suspicious" (it is, and I won't deny it). I had to close my thread about the events because there were people (more started showing up) that were attacking me and other members. If it was just me being attacked, I'd let it go, because I've got thicker skin than that, but attacking other people than me is too far. Coming here just to attack people. At least some people here can actually see the common sense here (let's see, if I was frauding Dell, why would I be so stupid as to get my story published all over the internet? D'uh!?)

I'm done hijacking your thread, but I felt that at least there should be a public explaination for the dissappearance of that thread.
Well were hoping both of you get results from all this.

I never doubted Fen lol.
Im praying my 1705 lasts me a longgggg time.

your a moderator here, but you end up using that power to hide. i know it might not be popular to ask questions, but your story has serious problems and you never answered them.

1. if you bought those parts from a "laptop repair store"
then why does your ebay auctions for the video cards say "ITEM IS NEW BUT CARRIES A REFURBISHED STICKER. ALL WARRANTY ITEMS FROM DELL CARRY A REFURBISHED STICKER."
That is actually a fairly easy explanation, the store he bought his parts from could have easily been an authorized Dell service center, and ALL spare parts from dell come with a refurbished stick, new or otherwise. I think Fen has been more than upfront with all of us here with his issues, and the Consumerist would have fact check their story before publishing.

Sorry to HIJACK. On to the main question for the OP what card did you have in that e1705?

even the guys they send to your house have to have the part mailed to them before they come out. that caused me to wait 4 days for a "next day" service. the facts don't add up, and fenuxx deleting all of the questions before locking the thread makes it look even more shady. and the consumerist seemed to be as unaware as everyone about the ebay sales since they had to wait for him to contact them before they posted his explanation- and then promptly locked the comments. i think even they know they messed up.

sorry to hijack, but this seems like the best spot since the other thread got edited and locked.

haha i dont mind the hijack as long as we get things cleared up... and YES there are service centers.. just because there isn't one near where you live doesnt mean there isnt one where fenuxx lives. in fact i have two right next to me, and they do sell parts... i just never bothered buying from them.

what im wondering is... the chances of a dell service center closing down is much more slim than a small town computer store... which i believe is what fenuxx was referring to. but if the center was closing, i dont see why he couldnt find good prices and just re sell them to make a small profit.

also you said you looked at his myspace, and found out he cant afford it... i call BS on that, he could've bought it well knowing that he would be able to pay it back within a month (ever heard of credit?) and paying back the full amount in a timely manner would cost him nothing in terms of interest....

You broke the rules. Plain and simple. Being that I'm a nice person, I didn't just outright ban your ass. I gave you a chance, and you continued. Don't believe me? You broke the rules:

Keep it up, and I *WILL* ban you. Consumerist was locked for the exact same thing, I spoke with them, you may as well if you wish.

As far as my explanations, I already provided them, and they weren't good enough for you, or you "didn't buy it". Great! Good for you! I could care less what you "buy" from me or not. I don't need to explain anything more than I already have, period. Especially to someone who joined this site just to flame me, call me out, and attack my personal character. I locked the thread for those reasons above, and removed not only my, but others posts, even those DEFENDING ME. I could have just removed the thread entirely, but I saw no reason to.

As far as where and how I "acquired" the parts? A (now closed), semi-nearby (I know a friend who is the nephew of the former owner) laptop repair store. They had alot of parts for many machines, Dell, HP, etc etc. I was purchasing them for a little less than I could get on eBay for them, and selling them, many of them to fellow NBF'ers. I also got my Quadro FX 3500M there, the 200GB HDD, and T7600 for my other M1710 (the one still listed in my signature). I also have a spare M1710 palmrest, as well as getting parts for my brother's Acer laptop. I believe this is all I need to say, and I don't need to go into the whole damn backstory about them. I never "hid" that aspect (the eBay listings) nor do I care. They were not from the warranty service for my laptop, and once again, as others have even said, if that was REALLY the case (me taking the parts I was getting to replace on my laptop, and selling them on eBay) do you REALLY think I'd be genius of the week and post the story, not only here, but get it posted on a HUGE site like Consumerist.com? Don't insult my intelligence.

That is the end of it, and if there is any further attacks, be it towards me, or anyone else, by you, you will be banned from this site for breaking the rule listed above. For your reference, here are THE FORUM RULES.

No, unfortunately.

Hello everyone,

This is Richard from the Dell Online Community Outreach group. I have been trying to assist Fenuxx with what information I have. Also, I have been reading the threads on this site, and the article on the Consumerist.

So, we are actively trying to assist Fenuxx. Unfortunately, his case is not a simple matter. As he has stated the situation spans out over three years, with countless systems and parts orders.

I am a really strait forward and very fair person, I have helped a lot of people on these forums, and you all should know this. So, believe me when I say we have been very accommodating to Fenuxx with all his requests in the past and we will continue to do so in the future when all the facts have been properly reviewed.

Best regards,

Richard B

What double standard thing? You've got a better system replacement for your old notebook albeit much bigger.....personally I'd be happy

What threads are you getting all these quotes from,I did look in your "dell screwjob" thread but couldn't find them there.....were they removed from this thread?I can't see anywhere this mikado guy abusing you,or using language that would neccessitate you giving all the internet heavy tough talk about "banning his ass"...from what I've read today.....he doesn't believe you,as I don't......the whole thing stinks of trying to get free 8800GTX's to me.
Fair enough, over the cosmetics, they should be fixed provided your old laptop was in a similarly pristine shape.

Good on you Richard for showing your face,in what I would imagine for you is a particularly difficult situation.
My five cents......as a 1730 owner who paid hard cash for their 8800's,I'll be spewing if this guy gets given a new system with 8800GTX's to replace his original 7900GS powered notebook....fix the cosmetic's,the rest is way good enough for a 1705 replacement....end of story.

thought it was a GTX?

From what I read,I thought Fenuxx's was supplied with 8700M sli....which is the one Richard was talking about....no?

Its quite hard to get the whole story as people seem to be deleting their posts or they are being deleted for them.....there's all these partial quotes with no original post in this thread or the "dell screwjob" one, that I can find.
