Horrible. It runs like XP with 256MB of memory and this system has 3GB's. The HDD's on this are large WD 160's at 5400rpm, so it cant be them.
I have disable Aero and gotten rid of (uninstalled) the 90day trial Norton.
I am running AVG Free for an AV. Ultimate is a 64bit system
Just opening a new site in IE takes on the average of 15secs or so and initial start up, seems to take forever.
I have went into power management and amended the screen to never turn off and also the HDD's to never turn off.
Before I did this, it went into some sort of sleep/hibernation mode and couldnt figure out how to wake it. I tried using the "sleep mode" at Start>Sleep and it went into sleep fine but when pushing the Power button to re-awaken, I waited about 5 mins and it still didnt awake.
Any little tweaks out there that you know of to speed up this process would be much appreciated.
I am on high speed cable as well and my old toshiba A70 is 3 times quicker in bringing up new sites as well as starting up and it only has 768MB of memory

I have very limited experience with Vista (have worked on 2 machines so far) but it seems REALLY slow to me too. One of the machines (a new HP) took FOREVER to boot, and just generally ran very slow. It has 2GB RAM, the other is an Inspiron 6400 with 3GB Ram, and is also pretty sluggish.

Some have reported getting Vista nice and snappy, hopefully one of them will pop in with some good ideas.

The best thing to do is to just wipe it and get a FRESH vista install. This will work wonders for you. It gets rid of all that extra crapware that is preloaded.

OK, here's what did it for me:
open an elevated command prompt, and type this command, hitting enter after each line and then rebooting the computer
netsh
interface
tcp set global autotuninglevel=highlyrestricted

To get the elevated command prompt, I did this:
press the Win key; type cmd; press Ctrl+Shift+Enter; and then hit Alt+C to confirm the elevation prompt

Reboot the computer
