700m heat problems?

I have a 700m that is almost 3 years old. It's been a great laptop, but lately it's been getting extremely hot. The fan runs on low virtually all the time and frequently kicks into high. With no programs loaded and the laptop sitting on a flat surface with the lid closed, the fan will still cycle between low and high and the whole unit is warm to the touch.

I've tried to control what programs are running to lower the overall load, and I've sprayed the laptop with the air in a can all over, but nothing seems to help.

Any ideas on what is causing this?

1. You have the lid closed. Doesn't help.
2. Clean out the fan vents with that can of air to remove any dust buildup
3. Try out fanGUI, it will allow you to have more direct control over the fans, when they come on, speeds, etc.
