T9300 or wait for T9400 ?

I'm thinking about getting a M1330.

Should I wait for the T9400/P9500 (coming in June) ? I was curious if the 1066 FSB would make a big difference in performance ?

I wouldn't hold your breath.

The performance gained from small increments of CPU clock increases or FSB increases is negligible, because so little of what you do on a laptop is strictly limited by CPU speed.

Make sure you have plenty of RAM, and a nice 7200rpm hard drive, and that will get you much more performance than a small bump in CPU.

I would wait if you can wait. The new platform will be coming out and laptops will take another big leap. A faster FSB means faster clock speeds. The laptops will also be able to support faster ram (800mhz+) and will have a lot more space to work with so will be lighter or have better graffix cards.

I thought T9500 was a 800 mhz chip?

It is, but I was talking about the upcoming P9500 which will be a 1066 MHz chip.

P9500 (2.5GHz, 1066MHz, 6MB and 25W)

Hey by the way how did you find this upgrade? Good performance difference?

I'm just about to do the same, replacing my T7500 in my XPS M1530 for a T9500 or T9600 and can't seem to find much info about it!!

So was it just plug & play installation and it worked right away? Did you ad to do BIOS update?

Actually should I go for a T9400, it's 2.53Ghz instead of 2.6Ghz, but it's got a better bus speed of 1066Mhz instead of 800Mhz for the T9500. Same cache, same Penryn 45nm etc...

But I've never seen it installed in a Dell, only Sony, HP, toshiba, Samsung, why is that? It should also be compatible for XPS, it's a Santa Rosa platform and socket P.

Let me know!! Thanks..

It depends what you use the laptop for. If for basic non gaminig performance you don't have to wait or overkill on upgrades. Surfing won't be any "faster" than it already is. Alot of ppl including myself are obsess with numbers, 2.4 2.5 $200 upgrade, is it worth it? If you have plenty to waste then yes.

Doesn't work like that. Chipset in your m1530 won't support the new processors, or at the least their bus speed. That chipset is limited to the 800MHz bus, and as such you would have to stick to a T9300 or T9500.

Even if the processors would work, because of the bus speed limitation of your chipset, they would only operate at 800MHz bus, therefore the T9400 would only effectively run at just under 2GHz clock speed.
