Semi-Gaming Laptop? Is There Such a Thing? - Page 2

^ Those are a little pricey and their specs aren't anything special. Just my opinion off a cursory inspection.

Of the two you had side by side, the 15.4" one seems like more power, just a smaller screen. I never use bluetooth and 17" is just too bulky and heavy (but this is me).

have fun with it

D: I wish I had that kind of money...

Alas, I have a firm maximum of $800 to spend on my first laptop...

Question though, does the 2 year warranty and 1 year accidental damage on all those models come standard with Asus? That kind of coverage costs at least $200 with all the other companies I've looked at...

Sounds good. I'll probably just go with my original plan and purchase a separate monitor to use with the notebook when I'm at home.

I'm excited now! Finally down to the DV68xx and a Dell, depending upon what kind of discount I can get.

Again, thank you so much to all of you. You've all immeasurably helpful in assisting me in my first laptop purchase!

But would you say this M51 line offers better bang for the buck than the HP?

I may be able to scrounge up an extra $200, but it's going to put a wrench in my budgeting...

Are the Asus's more powerful? Yes. Is that power worth $150-$200 more? IMO, no. I mean, if you're really concerned about gaming...then you might consider getting the Asus, but as of right now the 8400m in the HP should be able to game well enough today and well enough tomorrow. The Asus's 3650 will just be able to allow for higher details and framerates.

Once again, Dr. O. your advice is a godsend.

At the moment, all I need is something that can handle the PC games I currently have/play (Guild Wars, Fable, Runescape) without lagging.

The DV68xx seems to fit that bill nicely.

ShadowSonic, I will DEFINITELY keep Asus in mind. At least I know now that the brand has the backing of several educated members of this forum.

Thanks again guys!

The HP DV68xx has a Nvidia 8400.

That's more than enough, i believe.
