Warranty Poll on Dell laptops - preliminary. Please read!

I'm doing a little bit of research on user's experience with Dell laptops and their warranties. We all hear from everyone from the bad cases, but not much noise is made about the good ones. Here we'll get a good amount of data on what's going on out there, and maybe these numbers will be seen by people on the outside.

Now, before I come up with these poll questions, I need some experienced advise, and please logically justify these suggestions. I took statistics and numerical analysis a LONG time ago in college, and I'm afraid my poll questions will not be as relevant as they could be, or could cross over from one group to another. Who out there has some expert advise? You can either post here or PM me. I will make a thread for each generation (i9300/xpsg2/m170, i9400/m1710, xps 1730, etc). Maybe having the XPS's on their own? I don't want to thin the numbers out too much. These are the poll questions I postulate:

-it's worked fine! (regardless of if you have an active warranty or not)
-some parts are broken but I don't trust dell warranty, prob. end up on ebay searching for some.
-i've returned bad parts and gotten good ones, and now it works
-the computer died and I got a replacement which was better
-the computer died and I got a replacement which was worse
-the computer died and I have yet to get a replacement confirmation (not necessarily in your hands yet)
-i'm out of warranty and SOL

Voices from others will be heard, of course. Like Galileo said, "In questions of science, the authority of a thousand is not worth the humble reasoning of a single individual."

Thanks for the help guys!

Please note, and I have updated this above to make it more clear - there is no current poll. Please read the post where it's obvious that I'm trying to "gather intelligence" on which questions to poll. Therefore throwing a poll up would be missing the point. The poll will come soon, when I and others have decided that it's ready for launch. I want to get the most out of it.

You might include a couple items like:

I had some problems, but they turned out to be software. (Yay Dell Technical Support!!!!!)

I had some problems which were not the video card hardware, but I used them as an excuse to force Dell to give me a better video card. (or go buy one myself)

$.02

Please refrain from inappropriate comments about cheating Dell to do anything. That is probably part of the reason why we are where we are. Probably due to the ineptitude of Dell's lower-echelon tech support and depot guys too though. :-)

Keeping this at the top of the list, my poll suggestions are:
  • It's worked fine!
  • Some parts are broken but I don't trust Dell's Tech Support
  • Some parts broke, but Dell Tech Support replaced the defective/broken parts, and it all works now
  • The computer died and I got a replacement which was better
  • The computer died and I got a replacement which was worse
  • The computer died and I don't yet have the replacement
  • I'm out of warranty and SOL

LM has never needed anything and still works great at eleven years.

D800 needed three repairs in last six months of three year coverage (CD/DVD, LCD Screen, Cover for hinge replacement).

I went through the Dell Support online trouble shoot, ending with "send a message". In all three instances, had a response within hours, offering to pick-up and repair, or send me the parts.

I chose to receive the parts and they were delivered the next morning.

I paid $158 to extend that warranty another two years.

(I usually NEVER do ANY 'extra warranty protection'.)

So is this going to be made into a poll, or......

I was trying to get some community feedback before I made the poll. I guess this is as far as I'm getting, so I'll just put up the line items that you and I came up with.

I think you need to separate the standard warranty coverage from the complete care as people with the same problem will have it handled differently depending on the coverage the have
