It seems like eons ago when Microsoft announced the reaching of RTM (release to manufacturing) status for the first service pack of Windows Vista but the light at the end of the tunnel is finally upon us. As reported and cvasi-confirmed by sites like Amazon the retail version of SP1 will begin shipping tomorrow, when the pack should also become widely available through Windows Update. The boxed Windows Home Premium and Ultimate versions are also getting price cuts with the release of SP1 so if you haven't upgraded your OS, two months and two Patching Tuesday from tomorrow would be a nice start.

Update!

There are still driver issues with Sp1. If you run Windows Update manually and Sp1 doesn't show up, HERE is a list of possible causes.

You can try to force the update by downloading the full standalone installer. This is not recommended by Microsoft.

I finally got Windows Update to show Sp1 was available by sifting through the first link above and finding newer drivers.

It takes about 30 minutes to download and install the service pack if you already have the latest fixes installed (69-77 mb). The standalone is 434 megs.
