Power issue, Acer Aspire 5315

Hey there, I have a new Acer Aspire 5315 Notebook, I've only had it about a month, and just a few days ago when I tried to plug in, as the batter was about to die, it wouldn't register that I was plugging it into the AC adapter. I can't get it to charge at all. I did notice that the small LED on the box on the AC adapter was coming on, so I know it's getting power, it just won't take power to the notebook, could someone tell me if there's a way to check if it's the adapter that's the problem?

It is still under warranty, so I called Acer support, and the guy wouldn't listen to me, he kept interrupting me just saying they'd send a new adapter. I just want to be sure that's the problem.

Thanks a bunch!

Also, real quick, does anyone know where I could find just a new screen for this model? The screen cracked and when I called support for that they told me to pay them more than I payed for the actual notebook to get it replaced... So I'd just rather do it myself.

. it could also go both ways (battery and ac adapter) - wait & see, or get urself another adapter (borrow it) and try it out for urself 1st
. u can get a replacement screen at a reasonable cost (from eBay) and replace it urself. a 15 minutes job

Maybe he knows something you don't, like maybe they've had a bunch of power bricks that turned out to be bad?

Typically the light on the power brick just means the brick is getting AC from the wall. If you unplug the adapter from the laptop the light will stay on.

my $0.02 would be to let them send you the new adapter and see if that fixes it. This assumes they're going to send it to you for free. That will tell you if the adapter is the problem. and who knows, you might luck out and get to keep both of them.

Yeah he didn't ask for anything to send the new adapter, I just want to know what I can do just in case that doesn't solve it.

I have worked tech support before, and most of the time the companies just want the call ended because they get bonuses if their average call handle time is less than 15 minutes, so they do whatever it takes to get the call overwith, there were times I knew that what my boss would have me do wasn't going to solve the problem but I had higher-ups listening to the call so I had no choice.

It's a cruel cruel world out there.

You're right, maybe that will be all I need, but I can't help but be paranoid, I've been on both ends here.

And thanks to whoever sent the link about replacing the LCD, now I just need to find the right screen on ebay...

I had EXACTLY the same problem. I got both a new battery and a new adapter, but it still didn't work. I e-mailed them and they said to take out the battery and the adapter, hold the power button for 30 sec. (nothing will seem to happen, but it's the reset) and then put the charger (not the batt. yet) back in and turn it on. Once Windows boots up, put the battery in.
OR
Get a new one. I'm currently working on fixing mine right now, so if you get any new info, tell me. I tried the reset, but it didn't work for me.

Try swap the rm modules around also, if you have 2; or leave one out at at time and test.

Turned out being the piece that connects the battery to the comp. Needed to be replaced, about a $20 piece.
