R40 Fan Replacement

The R40 I salvaged from the trash is having fan problems. First I want to open the thing up and check the fan. What is involved in getting at the fan?

Second... What all is involved in actually replacing the fan? Connectors? Screws? Weird clippy-strap things?

Lastly, do I need an IBM Lenovo flavored fan or can I use an off-the-shelf fan?

straight forward, remove and replace (screws/connectors/new thermal paste)

Ok a quick disassembly finds the fan-unit clogged with dust and hair. Easy fix.

I shall continue dismantling the computer from here just to see what all I can upgrade and replace.

Camera is full of blackmail photographs and I can't find my transfer cable so I can't get pics at the moment. Transfer cable is on order as is a CF reader so this won't happen again.

I did order some parts from a salvage yard so when I attempt to install them later (bluetooth thingy, new hard-drive, things like that) I'll take pics.
