I thought about including the smart bay battery but the extra 28 days on top of the ship date is insane

the only thing i would increase and is worth the extra money is go with a three year warranty u never know what will happen with a laptop and things are expensive to replace if they die...

I can't help but notice that this is the 3rd or 4th person to whom the only advice you gave was to get a 3 year warranty.

I've owned 5 different laptops in my life (6 when the m15x comes in), and the only one to ever have major problems occurred because I left it in the trunk of a car on a 4 hour road trip in about 10 degree (Fahrenheit) weather.

If something goes wrong in the first year, the warranty is still good and free. Most things that go wrong happen in the first year... probably the first 6 months even.
If something goes wrong in year 2 or 3, you have to decide if said problem will cost less than $300 to fix on your own. Unless it's a motherboard or high end GPU or high end CPU, it'll be cheaper in general to buy replacement components yourself.

And IIRC, you still have to pay shipping costs to get your computer to AW if you can't get on-site support (which may cost money too, even with a warranty).

It also doesn't cover a product that has been damaged by actions that are beyond Alienware’s control, including for example, impacts, fluids, fire, flood, wind, earthquake, lightning or similar disaster, war, strike, lockout, epidemic, destruction of production facilities, riot, insurrection or material unavailability.

I'm personally preparing for the zombie apocalypse and if Alienware's warranty doesn't cover that, I won't pay for it.

if a motherboard or graphics goes out which can happen with higher end laptops because of heat like the m7700 had issues of with heat... its worth the money...75% of things that go wrong with computers are either a processor or graphics card or motherboard... theres not much else that will go bad also if ur lcd screen goes out that is a big issue too...

Looks like everything is on the lowest configurations, but you really should get the 3 year warranty, or atleast 2.

^^^^Im not a big pc gamer so for general usage and light gaming/ Dvd watching, I think the configuration is fine. Yeah im eventually going to extend the warranty half way through the first year. Just one question for all you m15x owners.
Does the m15x come preloaded with all the trial software? Its a pain getting rid of all those programs. I know the m9700 came with just a few programs, which was awesome. No trial software. Dont know if Alienware still does that.

One of alienware's biggest selling points was how they didn't have trial programs. I don't think they reimplemented that, it'd be a bad move.

Bloatware!

The warranty is definatley worth the extra.

The ONLY thing that would be cheaper than the $300 would be a HD, optical drive or ram. All the other components are well over $300 to fix. The amount of heat put out by all laptops today make the warranty worth every penny. As we all know heat is the #1 killer of electronics and components.

Wonder how much of a big deal it will be to change my order a bit and go with windows xp now that its offered. I mean just remove the turbo memory and change vista. Hopefully I can do this without delaying it, or without having to redo the order.

well no luck just called them. I have to cancel the order and start over fresh. So that means I gotta wait for the refund on my credit card and then wait for it to go through again. Lame!!!! Guess it is a big deal so I'll upgrade myself after I get it now that xp drivers should be available.
thats dumb you have to cancel ur order when its just a OS that needs to be changed...

Why do you want XP with a DX10 GPU?
Kinda defeats the purpose of getting that laptop.

BTW, when did they offer XP for the m15x's?
The DX10 thing is not really that important to some people like me.. I would rather have XP over VIsta anyday... OSX is better than vista...

well don't know what happened but over the weekend my order went from phase 4 back down to phase 3. It was on phase 4 for more than a week. The payment got processed 2 days after I placed the order. Is this normal?

it will jump on the phases online... just call CS and they will tell you what phase you are really on...
