Reverse Integration of SP1 into Vista RTM

Hi,

I'm going to work on reverse integrating SP1 into Vista RTM today per this article:

http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/0...ows-vista-rtm/

Could someone who's knowledgable about Vista please let me know if I can install Vista on a second partition if my main OS is already Vista? I have Vista on C: and would like to install a clean copy of Vista on D:, install SP1, and then - here is the part I need help with - boot into to my original OS (on C: ) to carry out the steps needed to make the image. My only real question is whether or not it's ok to reboot into your original OS or if doing so could mess up the image...

I will be checking this page frequently so if you think you know the answer, feel free to post

thanks!

Yeah, I did this myself, it was actually pretty easy.

I did it on my (then-ONLY) Vista laptop, install to a second partition, follow the guide (installing SP1 exactly as they said) and then boot back into the original Vista install (NOT the one you just installed SP1 on) and continue the steps.

It was actually a pretty easy process, just follow the directions.

Hi again Fenuxx - I got an error when I tried to install Vista on my F: drive (I have Vista on C: ) so what I am now doing is an installation on D: thinking maybe it needs to be closer on the drive to the original bootable partition...?

Another thing, my C: drive copy of Vista has been activated. Did you enter your product key when you installed Vista a second time to make the image or did you leave it blank? I'm thinking maybe this may be causing the error.

The error, by the way, is that it finshes installing and goes to do the reboot which would take me to the out-of-box-experience screen...however, at the screen where it tells you to choose your operating system to load (two vistas listed, the top one is the new one) *if i don't select the bottom one*, it refuses to boot to the OOBE page...

the long and short of it is, if you could kindly give me the exact steps that you took to install vista on the second partiton, i would greatly appreciate it...you are the only reference that i have so far for someone that has been successful installing vista on a machine that is running vista!

thanks for any help you can provide...

update - now running on SP1 - the problem was that it wasn't on D:, got it fixed

Awesome, yeah, I installed the OS on D:\ and didn't enter the product key. Just followed the steps exactly as they stated in there, and it worked fine.
