Sound distortion with Pro A200

Hi Everyone,

I have a client with a Pro A200 that is a month old running XP. He takes dictation with this machine and there is a very loud hum that almost over powers the recording. This issue occurs with both Windows sound recorder and Dragon Naturally Speaking voice recognition software.

Multiple microphones have been used. The system has been restored to factory configuration. The systemboard was replaced to rule out an issue with the microphone jack.

Unfortunately, the client is very resistant to sending this back to Toshiba so we are stuck repairing it. Full hardware diagnostics have been run and I can not find any hardware issues.

The issue is still present in sound recorder after the recovery has been run. I have kind of run out of ideas short of shotgunning it. I just do not feel confident that replacing the systemboard, cpu, memory, and hard drive is going to resolve anything.

If anyone has any information, it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your time.

Respectfully,

this article is quite interesting regarding hum noise when using laptop to record
http://www.myriad-online.com/resourc...h/rsadvrec.htm

u might want also to discuss with ur client about the recording environment - soundproof studio is the best way of doing it. And no, it has NOTHING to do with laptop manufacturer/model - also with apple laptops

review the article link and if u would come back with full system environment, may be more of us can take a potshot at it

cheers ...
