MacBook Air

Okay...

so im really actually tempted by the air. its the first time i have seen a mac and been like OMG i need to have that yet. i got a chance to see one in person this past weekend and it was a love a first sight situation.

so this brings me to the problem. i love the damned thing for its light weight and super small size. i know the downsides of it (at least as far as some basic research i have done) and i dont think they would really be a big issue for me. the air if i actually buy it would be my second machine, it would be the portable and my m1710 would be my gaming portable beast. i have been looking at something small, light, thin, and generally easy for use at university for a while and the air seems to fill that role nicely.

i have looked at alot of the options, even looked at the option of maybe an eeepc with windows and some mods.

so what need from you guys is some advice and thoughts about the air and my situation... anyone got some good reasons to talk me out of it? or into it?

If you have the money to spend and you want it go ahead and get it.

Probably not so much info no.

Just making sure before I started actually talking out of it with rational logic(Yes I know, it has no place here

I have my first apple and I LOVE it....very good customer service, nice to be able to run to apple store for accessories and help, etc. AIR is cool but small.

logic has no place here. you should ban yourself for even suggesting such a thing.

if you think you can actually talk me out of it with logic you are welcome to try, but i cant guarantee success.

Haha, actually I would encourage you to buy it, finances permitting. It seems perfect for you as an ultraportable second machine. It seems that's what the Air was really intended for.

Sorry, I can't talk you out of it :P

My wife and I both love ours.

It does what it is made for very well. Do not buy it for performance you will be dissapointed. I do use mine on occasion with Adobe Lightroom (a little slow) and Photoshop. But It is used mainly for web surfing, email etc.

If I had to do it over again I would. For a ultraportable that actually looks good and performs well, not great but well. I find the ports adequate. Don;t really need anything more for the portability it offers. It is enough for me to plug in my 2.5"wd usb drive for time machine to backup to when I am travelling. What else would you need usb for, prointer? I use Bluetooth apple mouse when I am doing a lot as i do not like trackpads for extended periods of time.

Well, you can always buy "cheap" w/ the 1.8" HD, put up with the speed, and then as SSD drives pick up in performance and decrease in price you can upgrade down the line.
Having used both a 1.8Ghz SSD and 1.6Ghz standard HDD I have to say the price difference isn't worth it. The base model is still a great machine.

I've heard nothing but praises for the build quality of the Air. Do you have any links?
I am not sure where you heard or read that but both my my MacBook Airs are top notch quality. They are built like tanks for there size and weight. I nothing but good things to say about them.

bleh i had a long rant going, but it started to sound from a mod's POV that it maybe a flame bait or what have you so ill stop and edit my last post too

i like it, i really do, i just dont perfer the 1 usb port, battery being built in
and mac OS (not used to it so itd take time) if it were a windows machine, and the battery can be bought and replaced by the end user, id be all over it

i supose a usb break out box would work, but i dunno, something about it doesnt add up to me

but to the other 100,000+'s that they have sold (dont quote me i dont know how many they sold) it matters

its effin cool how thin it is, but the price is just, ouch =/

anyhoo imma stop, and say good luck Fidget if you buy one, i hope to see tons of pictures
