Sony Hates You, Offers $50 "Fresh Start" Option to Build Your Laptop Crapware-Free

I kind of had to LOL at this because it's both funny and at the same time depressing.

Sony has quite the history of crippling excellent, beautiful hardware with horrible, useless software. The company's UX UMPC bluescreened on us the first time we turned it on, and crashed the first time we tried to shut it down thanks to all the bloatware on it, while a Laptop Mag review says their Vaio TZ ran "as if it were broken" before they managed to wipe it clean. Lucky for us, it appears Sony is finally seeing the error of its ways, but instead of removing the crapware altogether, Sony has the nerve to offer a $50 "Fresh Start" option, which "scrubs" the machine clean before shipping it your way. At the moment you can only configure the TZ2000 crapware-free, but hopefully Sony will be rolling out the choice to the rest of its laptops soon. Or here's an idea, Sony: stop trying to milk profits and start giving consumers laptops that actually work out of the box.

dammit sony. I would worry but where I live, basically no one trusts big companies and everyone still like to shop local...

It seems logical that if they're charging to take all that junk off that they somehow are making money by putting it on there... if they supplement their income with crapware, though, why are Sony computers so friggin expensive? This is just an e-b***h-slap to the face and wallet.

The whole reason for the existence of bloatware is to offset some of the costs of making the computers...However, in Sony's case, they create most of their bloatware themselves, and make it so you can't easily use a lot of the computer's features without the stuff.

I'm hoping this option will be popular enough that Sony will start to cut down on the bloatware on every computer. Their new computers all have a list of "Vaio this-and-that utility" programs that fill the entire screen in the uninstall list...

^^^ Yeah, I have a UX280p, and I'm hesitant to take all the stuff off of it, not sure which things would stop working. Fortunately I don't have to use it a lot.
