Hi i am thinkg about buying a Dell XPS M1730. The top end model with a

DUAL SLI 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX card

Now does this mean the laptop will have two 512mb 8800GTX cards, both with 512mb each ?

And does this Rock Xtreme 770 T7800-8800 have just the one ?

http://www.trustedreviews.com/notebo...-T7800-8800/p1

If thats right the the Dual SLI machine should offer much better performance than the Rock ?

Thank you

You are correct that laptop has a single 8800GTX. They do have 512Mb each, but realize that doesn't really equate to 1Gb since I believe that they both have the exact same things in memory at the same time.

Crysis plays excellent. You have plenty of options with 8800's in SLI. Between resolution and settings you can make it run however you want. Don't expect 60 FPS at 1920x1200 with "very high" settings in DX 10 though, even desktops have problems with that.

Now I have only played single player, but just for reference I have been playing at 1920x1080 (on my HDTV) with all high settings and I find it totally playable in DX10 and DX9 modes. Average is in the mid 30's in DX9 (vs upper 20's in DX10) and since I can't tell them apart without taking a screenshot and doing a side by side comparison I have been using DX9 for a little boost in performance.

If you wanted 60FPS you could lower the resolution a bit or lower the settings a bit to get it. FYI the game looks stunning even at 1280x720 (and 1024x768 for that matter) so you could probably play on very high if you want. Also the differences between high and very high I could not see without doing a side by side comparision, so I struck a compromise and kept the high resolution and play in high settings.
