dell i8600 wont power on

so ive had it for aound 3 yrs, no major issues. i did drop it once cracking the lcd but the laptop itself was good. i have it hooked up to an external lcd monitor. anyways, it just powered off on me. not a battery issue since the green light on the charger itself is on

i press the on button and the green left light is on, but when i let go it stays off, also no response at all from the laptop, screen wont boot up. is it a dead hard drive,over heated? i took out the battery and plugged it directly still no response. any trouble shooting ideas?

it could be a simple dead CMOS battery

try booting without the battery in and just connected to an AC adatper
