Got an inspiron 9300 about 3 years ago with a 6800GO . As its starting to show its age now i have just splashed out the best part of £1800 on a XPS M1730

2.5 GHZ T9300 CPU
Dual SLI 8800 GTX
320GB Raid 0
4GB RAM
3 Year care

Can't wait to get it, is there anything i need to do when i get it, any must do's ?

Thanks

I would suggest reinstalling Vista for a start, from there I think you can just get right to gaming!

Definitely agree on the reinstall.

i agree with the others. reinstall is the best way to go. you might want to think of everst ultimate or some program to monitor temps and such.

You have to install Intel Matrix driver during Vista OS installation.

There will be window for something about "install drivers" which lets you insert and browse for it. You will have to see it yourself since I can't remember exact details.

Just remember this thread if OS install doesn't complete for 1.5+ hours.

Upgrade to SP1 and get drivers 174.20, seem to be the best for most people, although I like to use 174.40.

The 174.31 drivers are top-notch (available as a MobileForce driver, or from LaptopVideo2Go). They're legitimate MOBILE drivers, from Dell themselves even.

I will have to try these myself. The ones I got from LV2G didnt work for me. Drivers kept crashing and the video cards would down clock a lot.

Personally, while I do reinstall, I take time to get used to how the computer handles stock from Dell first. Then, you'll know what was corrected or potentially broken from your reinstall.

My first though: Turn off all LED's

haha i like the led's

but they do get annoying sometimes i guess... i wouldnt take it to a library and flash it all over the place, especially not in college
